Alusplash or glass splashback?

Any thoughts? We like the Totally Teal and the Blueberry for the Alusplash. Just not really sure which direction to go in. Don't want tiles as want to avoid grout! It's pairing up with white gloss cabinets, Arden Blue worktop (which is a type of black quartz), floor colour undecided!

I have Blueberry Alusplash paired with White cabinets, white marble effect quartz worktops and a dark blue island.
Totally Teal was my second choice.

I'm really pleased with it.
We chose alusplash instead of glass because BUDGET and also it could be cut and fitted without delay of yet another template.(which glass would require)

Pros - looks amazing. I believe its easy to clean but i barely wipe it over once in a blue moon!
Very modern look, most visitors think it's glass but once you know that Alusplash exists, you CAN tell the difference.
I have no (visible) joins so only have the slim Stainless steel trim at one exposed edge and along the top.
Cheaper than glass.

Cons - very limited colour choice.
Although it's theoretically a DIY job, you are better to get an experienced installer and they are as rare as hen's teeth.
Until it's installed, it's easily damaged. We unpacked my two panels (delivered direct from Hafele) to find one dented corner, and a bit scratch on the surface of one panel. Luckily installer managed to work round them

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo That is all really helpful to know, especially thinking about the installation. Both lovely colours, but leaning towards the Blueberry. Decisions, decisions!

If you want to PM me your location, I can send you details of my installer if he covers your area (he did drive over 2 hours to me!)

just to check it isn't a gas hob? If it is unless you have a super-deep worktop, you can't have anything except tiles.

glass splashbacks are about £80 online and you can have any colour you want, even pictures if you want those.

Thanks @mencken We are having an induction hob. Will look at the glass option again, hadn't realised you could get it so well priced!

This is blueberry during the day, at night with only light over hob and at night with full under cupboard lighting

That kitchen is lovely, really like the colour of the Splashback - very nice! Thank you @WhereDoesThisToiletGo for posting day and night photos, the illuminated version is great!

Bluebird is also nice. Ocean wave too

mencken · 20/06/2020 20:10

before I discovered I couldn't have glass due to the gas hob, I found lots of glass splashbacks online for that kind of good price. Just google 'glass splashbacks'. Remember kitchen showrooms rip you off, same as wedding suppliers.

Quite fancied one with the angel of the north although I suspect patterns/pictures will get old fast. But they can match any colour.

Voice0fReason · 20/06/2020 21:12

You can have glass behind a gas hob - just make sure it is toughened glass.
I love mine, I love the fact that you can have a bespoke design.
And it's very easy to keep clean.

sierra2020 · 04/07/2020 23:12

This is my current dilemma!

1neverending · 07/07/2020 08:37

Also trying to decide between the two.

Has anyone found any good on line glass shops that template ? (When I say good I mean reasonable price !)

sunshinesupermum · 07/07/2020 09:57

I have glass worktops - love them!

I'm still undecided! Waiting until kitchen is in to make a final decision. Colour is close with the Alusplash (and would be absolutely fine), but wondering if I can get a more exact colour match with glass.

You'll definitely be able to get a near exact match using glass if you get it bespoke. Plenty of suppliers will provide glass to any RAL number.
Mine is a pretty good match but the splashback lies between the white edge units and isn't very near the blue island

sierra2020 · 12/07/2020 12:01

The Wickes website mentions you can use alusplash behind gas hobs? They wouldn't say that if it wasn't suitable right?

We can't go for glass as budget and also the whole waiting to have a template done

Hi there, I am looking to install an Alusplash splashback and struggling to find someone who can fit this. I am locating in Kent area through with close proximity to the M25. Are you OK to send his number across?
