Does my DIY kitchen look rubbish?

We spent the higher end of our budget for our house due to it being in a good location for DH’s work, but it meant we had no spare cash to do anything to it. I was fed up of my dated kitchen so decided to paint it and fablon the work tops. I’m not sure if I’ve made a mistake now and if it looks naff or not. I know how ungrateful it sounds but I feel so down about my house at the moment compared to all the lovely houses of people I know on Facebook and all the things they’re doing to them!

It looks fab and took a lot of hard work - I painted my brown kitchen grey then replaced the door handles with more modern ones and everyone said how much better it looked.

@Handsoffisback

thesandman there’s nothing wrong with taking pride in your home!
Did I say there was?

The OP said (in part) "but I feel so down about my house at the moment compared to all the lovely houses of people I know on Facebook and all the things they’re doing to them!"

Take pride if you want but get to depressed and upset because your work room doesn't live up to some Platonic Ideal Homes kitchen is just silly. It's a kitchen. What you do in it and with it is more important than what it looks like.

I think it looks lovely Op
I like the slightly more traditional kitchens, so your kitchen appeals to me.
The grey looks nice

If I'm honest, the doors still look really dated with that shaker grove in them. I had similar and it always collected oil and grime!!! We replaced the doors only and it made a massive difference. Much cheaper than replacing the whole carcass too, but made the whole kitchen look brand new. Is this an option- to just replace the doors?

Sorry, the blue lights look like those tacky ones people put under pimped up cars when they race up and down the street and really add nothing to the look of the kitchen.

Roselilly36 · 19/06/2020 19:10

I think it’s a big improvement, it would have looked more “modern”, if the door knobs were at the bottom of the cupboard doors rather than the middle.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/06/2020 19:29

Looks nice to me, certainly an improvement.

catinthehat09 · 19/06/2020 19:45

It looks lovely, well done!

Bigcuddlybearmummy · 20/06/2020 00:10

Thank you everyone! Made me feel more confident about it x

It looks good apart from the blue lights, they don’t go with the units, they’re more suited to a contemporary kitchen/night club.

Iggypoppie · 20/06/2020 00:50

It's really nice, something yellow or red would be nice as an accessory, even t towels

tenlittlecygnets · 20/06/2020 01:02

It's great! I like it!

LovingLen · 20/06/2020 06:51

It looks really good, I guessed the wood was the before and I really like your Wrendale accessories.

SanJunipero · 20/06/2020 07:08

It looks really smart! You've done a lovely job.

Avacadoandtoast · 20/06/2020 07:21

It looks fab! Much better - well done!

wowfudge · 20/06/2020 08:54

It's a big improvement, yes the door style is dated, but the paint job has lifted the whole thing.

Mintjulia · 20/06/2020 09:09

Well done, it’s really great.Smile

A kitchen might only be a workroom but if you spend a lot of time there, being cheerful about your surroundings is important.

I’d gradually replace the jars, tea towels, toaster etc, I’m not keen on the blue lights either but you could add kingfisher blue accessories instead.
