Single skinny mum - worth paying for divan bed assembly service?

Juliet2014 · 19/06/2020 11:33

First divan bed so no idea if assembly involved.

Bed company will deliver to room
And for an extra £25 they will assemble divan bed and dispose of packaging.

No one to help me assemble and I’m on the scrawny side of skinny so bit weak!

However, keen to save money where I can

Is it straightforward? (Apparently delivered in two parts and I have two drawer storage option aswell) or should I splurge the £25

Many thanks

Yes pay it , you need strength to put anything big together . Less stress all round .

RedCatBlueCat · 19/06/2020 11:42

No, it's easy peasy. Screw on a hook, and clip it over the other side. Absolutely no strength needed. You need some screwdrivers tho - ours took a large flat head.
Again, our drawers were already in place- just needed some plyiers to pull out the staples holding them shut.
The only hard bit is getting the bits up the stairs- but you say they are doing this, and maybe putting the mattress on the base.

Athrawes · 19/06/2020 11:47

I'd pay just to have them take a way all the packaging!

BertiesLanding · 19/06/2020 11:49

I put together a super-king bed frame myself a few years ago. I am short, and I was very slim back then. It involved a bit of creative thinking but I enjoyed the challenge.

Definitely pay. Skinny or not why bother doing all that when someone can do it for you for 25 pounds??? Easy life all the way especially if you can afford it.

When £25 could be spent on something else if it is straightforward? Confused

Thank you all
I am undecided! I don’t want to just see them clip two pieces together and know I paid £25 for it!
On the other hand.... I don’t want to have to call on a neighbour I have spoken to twice in 7 years to help me!

For a divan bed - no!

Base is usually in 2 parts which clip together then bung the mattress on top & make bed - at most you'll need to attach the headboard usually 2 screws (almost always flathead so a bog standard knife will do if you don't have a screwdriver).

My drawer is along the bottom & the bottom half is heavier but if they're already doing the heavily lifting up the stairs I wouldn't worry about that.

I did clearly write especially if you can afford it. You choosing to omit it is bizarre. At the end of the day you are asking for opinions. Have the decency to accept them with grace.

I put a divan bed together on my own a few months ago, it was tricky and I did need help with the headboard so had to wait for DP to get home. Probably could have managed on my own but if someone offered for £25 I would've jumped at the chance. And I do a very manual job so am fairly strong

blankethog · 19/06/2020 11:56

Ours was definitely not in 2 parts though, but it was also an ottoman so bit trickier maybe?

Juliet2014 · 19/06/2020 11:56

I didn’t say I couldn’t afford it
But if £25 is a waste as so easy then I’d prefer to avoid that scenario!

Ok I think I’m going to risk it!

Thanks again

No headboard and no ottoman btw

Honestly I wouldn't if you're keen to save money, it'll take them a maximum of about 10 minutes if that. Provided you have a basic toolkit you'll be fine. Most divans will need a screwdriver, a spanner, and if it's fabric and you have drawers in it, then you'll need pliers to remove the staples they'll have used to fix the securing fabric into the frame to stop the drawers coming out in transit.

TheFlis12345 · 19/06/2020 12:00

Putting a divan together is literally a one minute job. As long as they are putting it in the bedroom it is really easy. You just hook two bits of metal in place and tighten.

NanooCov · 19/06/2020 12:01

Assembling a divan is easy - essentially just hooking two sections together. But manoeuvring a double mattress solo is a pain in the bum so if that's involved I'd probably pay the £25.

Juliet2014 · 19/06/2020 12:02

Decision made! Thanks
Just need to root out my tool kit post divorce!

A 2p will do the head board and hooks

They’re all similar!

The bottom is usually hollow and very light weight. So if the clips are underneath you can flip the base over

BanishNo5 · 19/06/2020 12:16

Look on youtube how its fitted and then decide.
