Redundancy, worried

Hi all,

I'm currently on furlough. Having received an update from work, it's not looking good for a lot of us. I am gutted, but trying to prepare now so I know what to do if I'm made redundant.

I've had a look into universal credit incase finding a job is proving difficult. The calculator estimated that I could expect to receive around £1200 a month in benefits. I am a single person, living in central London, 27 years old, no children, not much savings no disabilities etc. Does the UC allowance estimate sound correct? It seems a lot!

Also, I am currently renting a room through an agency/private landlord. Will UC contact them directly to prove any information about me living there? I pay £750PCM. I'm concern that the landlord won't be happy about me being on UC...

I hope this makes sense! I am a bit scared, so trying to put together a plan B. :(

Thanks so much in advance.

If gay that's what the calculator says it will be correct. You don't need to tell your landlord you're on UC. Just pay your rent as normal since the Universal Credit gets paid directly to you not your landlord

You should get
£409.89 as the standard allowance and then a contribution towards rent (as you’re under 35 and single it will be the shared room rate). If you look here you can find how much you’d be entitled to lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/search.aspx (you need to choose shared accommodation from the first drop list)

UC is paid directly to you including the part for rent allowance so you’re landlord wouldn’t need to know that you’re on UC.

UC won't contact in normal course of things.
Citizens Advice & Turn2US do benefits calculator for UC payments..
But to be honest, a lot of people now on UC that were never before so I would be surprised if landlord had big issue.
Any s**t from your landlord.......contact SHELTER asap..

Sounds a lot to me. It's nearly what I earn for working full time in a managerial position in the NHS.

Thanks everyone. The link was also very helpful, I feel more relaxed :)
