American fridge freezer vs full height integrated fridge & full height integrated freezer? Not sure which gives more storage?

Report
Bells3032 · 19/06/2020 20:46

That really depends on how tall you are. I'm 5 3 and for me a full height fridge freezer would be irritating

@Sunisshining12 @Bells3032 How funny, DH and I were just discussing this and had decided full length fridge / full length free freezer as you get more capacity that way and they're actually cheaper. I'm also 5'3" though and not thought about that as an issue..

Why? They’re only about 5ft 6 so not that tall?

Fischer & Paykel double drawer dishwasher along with my qooker are my must haves. Googling those microwaves right now...

I have a fridge freezer fridge over freezer and struggle to reach the top shelf. 5’ 2” tall.

Oh I thought you meant like a floor to ceiling one

Pyrolitic top of the range neff ovens, plus warming drawer! Between them they cook anything perfectly and clean themselves. Pull out larder so no digging in the back of the cupboard. Integrated fridge, freezer, dishwasher. Supersize hob and pan drawers, full size wine fridge. Plenty of storage space, glass splash backs, Quooker tap. Corner cupboard carousels and a separate utility room with spare fridge, washing machine and dryer, extra large sink and tap with long pull out hose. Broom and laundry cupboard!

Also underfloor heating and easy clean flooring. Also suggest a style that won’t go out of date and will age well. No gloss doors.

Do you have the F&P drawer dishwasher? I'm very tempted but one kitchen place was very negative and I can't find many user reviews online.

Wine fridge
Walk-in larder
Smeg dual-fuel range cooker
Loads of surface prep space
Somewhere to hang pans, don't like pan drawers
Huge scrubbed pine table and chairs
A proper bookshelf for cookbooks
Sofa Grin

No kitchen island and absolutely no bloody bar stools

Got to be quartz worktops... No more faffing around trying to find a trivet!

@StrikesMatches I do, and I love it. They used to be unreliable - the one my sister had years ago was always breaking down - but they are fine now. It’s perfect for us as we have grown up kids so often it’s just the two of us but if we have a houseful you can run both drawers at the same time. Happy to answer questions/send photos, I’m a bit of an evangelist about it.

Omg the dishwasher drawers look amazing. I have always loathed opening the door right down, pulling the tray out, all the bending over..... first world problem I know but I always wondered why it couldn't be designed at waist height without all the scrabbling around at practically floor level!

I disagree with "integrated everything". I really dislike integrated appliances and won't be getting them when we re do our kitchen. Let a fridge look like a fridge!Grin

guys, one question I have with the Neff slide and hide... Surely it effects the temperature of the oven every time it's opened, no? I just don't see the appeal in the door sliding all the way like that, and exposing the heat to room temperature, and thus affecting the temperature of the oven - am I being dense here?

Report
bouncydog · 20/06/2020 05:19

Slide and hide is fabulous as you can easily reach right into the oven. It doesn’t do any more to the kitchen re heat than a normal oven and is incredibly energy efficient.

Smallgoon I’ve always thought my that too. No way of partially opening the door ? Can’t imagine - think I need to look at one to understand.
Thanks to this thread I have watch drawer dish washing machine video. Never had one before but that looks great.

I’m so glad I come across this post, never heard of the quooker tap before. It never made sense to me why you would want a tap with boiling water and cold water only, I always wondered how you actually wash up or wash your hands.

Plinth drawers are a clever way to get some extra storage.

@skippy67 I tend to agree. If you have slick stainless steel appliances, I don't mind / even kinda prefer them not being covered up

@Dingdongthewitchisbread Have you seen the one that does sparkling water too?? Though does take up a lot of space under the sink

I'm hoping someone can help me work out if this is an option for my dream kitchen. I hate having small appliances out. But we very regularly use the juicer and the blender and less so the mixer. I don't want them out but I also hate dragging them out from a cupboard and setting them up then putting them away after.

What I want is a set up where there is a counter top and sockets within a large cupboard so that all I have to do is open it to use them in place then shut it again when I'm done.

Has anyone come across this kind of set up?

@Hotwaterbottlelove it’s called a tambour unit. Imagine a roll down garage door- it looks very stylish. I totally love mine. The coffee maker and toaster live in it.

Hot tap
Integrated bin
Double sink
Induction hob
Tambour unit.
Drawers. Everywhere. Never climb into a cupboard again.

A breakfast pantry can do similar. That’s currently on my wish list. I like the tambour units but often they are shallow so you still need to take the things out a little bit onto the worktop to use them. I’ve also seen them called ‘appliance garages’ which I like!

A breakfast pantry has cupboard doors opening directly onto the worktop so it’s still usable space. The type I would want would need to fit a microwave, toaster and blender - I’m the same as you, I use them all but don’t necessarily want ‘clutter’ on display.
