Hi all,

Looking for some help re: understanding the different areas in St Albans!

DH and I looking to make the move from London to St Albans and are looking at houses. We have found some in several different areas and are trying to suss out which might be best. We are in early 30’s and thinking about a family soon.

We've seen places available in: South East (towards Watercress Nature Reserve), East (near Clarence Park) and North West (by the hospital). Can anyone give any insight into these areas or any others that they might recommend?

Thank you Smile

I think East is one of the nicest areas by the park, however I don't know the other 2 areas as well. You could also look at London Colney/ the area just before that near Samuel Ryder school

There are no 'bad' areas of St Albans really. It just depends on what you want (detached house, suburban lifestyle vs terraced house and urban lifestyle). St Albans schools are generally all very good and don't operate on catchment anyway (happy to be corrected on this as I haven't lived there for a couple of years). Years ago the southern suburbs (park street, london colney etc) were considered less 'posh' but that's probably less the case now. I love the area around Clarence Park (if you have the money). I also know the area around the hospital very well and that's fine too- more urban maybe but great for access to the city centre and the M1/Harpenden. Bernards Heath is a lovely bit of green space.
