Integrated pull out bins, do they make your kitchen smell?

Designing our new kitchen.
There is no real wall space for a normal bin so we are considering a pull out bin draw. I have never had one of these and don't know anyone who has one.

I noticed all of them don't have any lids, does that not make your kitchen smell? Anyone with experience with these bins? Are they smellier then the stand alone bins with lid?

I've got one. The lid is in the unit and you slide the bin in and out under it, and it creates a good seal when everything is in place. The lid ifts out for cleaning, and I need to be careful it doesnt get pushed up out of place by too much recycling in the bin. My bin has 4 sections, I've designated mine for rubbish, recycling, compost and plastic bags, so it can get quite smelly inside. But if the lid is in place it doesnt smell at all in the kitchen.

I've had one for 10+ years & it's one of the things I love most about my kitchen - no free standing bin with the associated mess down the side/on the florr around it. Itake mine out to the bins every night & have never noticed any smell. I also wash the bin every couple of weeks & it's fine.

We have a lidded one similar to previous poster, as in the bins slide out from under the lid when you open the cupboard door.

I like it and it doesn’t smell anymore than a normal free standing bin.

I have a bin drawer with 3 bins -one for food waste, one for recycling and one for everything else. The food bin is the only lidded one. No issue with smells.

Best thing ever. Get one with a kick opener if you can. Whenever I see a bin out in a kitchen I think it's a poorly designed kitchen. Food prep area, sink, bin - should be close to each other

I have one with a bin, a section for recycling and a section for food waste. Food waste has a lid and as this is the only smelly bit the kitchen doesn't smell.

Love it.

Best thing ever. No lids, doesn't smell, empty every night. Love it.

One for rubbish and one for recycling, no lids and no smells. Love them, so tidy.

They have one or more plastic buckets inside which you take out for emptying. You can put a bag inside the food waste one. I'd be surprised if it was too big to rinse out in the sink. If it is, you can tip hot water into it from time to time.

We have 2, a large one for recycling and a small one for everything else. The only ‘smells’ come DHs empty beer cans in the large bin, and only when opened. The small one is emptied too regularly to become smelly.

We have Ikea's pull-out sorting bins under the sink including for food waste; they're not really big enough for recycling so we keep that in a separate drawer, use the bins for corralling under-sink stuff; and the food waste for food waste – doesn't smell at all! The whole drawer gets a bit crumby but then we're slapdash with throwing stuff in, so we hoover it with the handheld doofrey once a week. It's fine, we change the bag frequently as it gets full so it never reaches composty rat heaven stage.

Wish we had room for a proper bin drawer! But the room shape makes an actual bin make more sense.

Better an awkwardly placed bin, though, than my MIL's solution which is to just not have a bin. She piles rubbish on the counter and goes out to the wheelie bins multiple times a day. Confused
