House with ground floor higher than the outside...

I hope this makes sense!!

Our road is on a slight hill which results in all of the houses on our side being higher off the ground at the back... we currently have decking level with the house ground floor and a ramp that takes you down in to the garden. The decking is approx 4’ high.

Well it’s rotting so we have decided remove it and not to replace it, but what can we replace it with? The original steps which lead from the house to the garden are underneath the decking so they we do for now but I’d like some ideas please? What have you got if in a similar house?

Thanks

I'd redo the stairs with nice brick

What are the existing steps made of? Are you looking to replace them or just tidy them up a bit? You could top them with Indian sandstone- we had stone steps built in our garden and topped with sandstone slabs, they look great.

We have exactly the same challenge as you. My husband built this raised deck and stairs, although that sounds similar to what you're getting rid of...

The steps are just breeze block painted, they’re not very wide and look shit tbh.

We don’t want to replace with more decking as we’ll be rubbish with the upkeep!

Our decking is composite so minimal upkeep Smile

Ours isn't that high (4 steps) but I'm planning to save for some non-slip decking.

was just about to post about composite decking...looks real, no upkeep.

We have a raised patio. Needed planning permission.
