Neighbour problem.....

Hey guys

Not really sure where to put this but I've just had my neighbour knock on the door and he has made me extremely upset.

To cut a long story short, there is a property next to mine up for sale. Today the workmen were just finishing off the kitchen. One of the workman came into the garden and I asked whether I could just have a quick look inside as I was tidying my garden. They were super friendly and asked me to come in. I had a quick look round and general chitchat and was in the house no more than 3 minutes.

Now... this evening my neighbour who works for the property company who is doing the work for the house has knocked on my door asking why I was in the house. I told him I had asked to see the work and he said that thanks to me all the workman are now going to lose their jobs as I shouldnt have been in there. I tried to explain i had asked them and had even described them but he wouldn't let me finish and just kept talking over me. Bearing in mind, I'm 47 and he is 20, why am I so upset. I would never just walk into a property and just thought I would ask if I could pop in and see the work. Loads of the neighbours have done the same whilst work has been going on so it's not just me......

Any advice guys.... I'm really upset and have only just stopped shaking...

He's a 20 year old twat. Ignore him. If the worker who allowed you in broke the rules, that's on him. You have done nothing wrong.

FredaFox · 17/06/2020 20:59

He may have not dealt with it in the right or at least polite way but i find it odd you asked to go and have a look around, how nosy are you? If it was my new home being worked on I wouldn't be happy and would tell the workmen off for allowing it
I think you take it on the chin and forget about it.

Speak with the property company - and explain.

It may seem that it was none of your business to see the work, unless of course you were considering hiring the company for similar work in your house (that may mitigate the issue as its about generating extra business).

He may have been angry and they may have got told of because of a breach of covid rules too.

What? Don't get what the problem is/the rules you broke?

Pelleas · 17/06/2020 21:01

He sounds like a total dick.

Not sure from your post whether he means he's going to sack the workmen himself (which would make him even more of a dick) but it was up to them to say no if you shouldn't have been in there.

FFS, don't do this. Why would you? You've not done a thing wrong. You have nothing to apologise for or justify.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the replies. I'm the original OP. No one lives in the house. They are still doing it up and it's now up for sale. Yes I probably am a bit nosey. Point taken. They've been doing it up for years and is a listed building so everyone is interested with what they are doing inside who lives in the street as we've had years of building work. It's funny but my neighbour was in there yesterday chatting to a workman and no one said anything to her but point taken. I'll keep well away from now on....

Why are loads of rhe neighbours asking to go into this house , that’s so so friggen odd

The workmen should not have allowed you in. I’m assuming the owner is pissed off about it. They shouldn’t loose their jobs but they shouldn’t be letting people into someone else’s home.

Elephant75 · 17/06/2020 21:31

The workman have been there for years so when you see them every day I suppose you get friendly with them and their comings and goings. It's only since lockdown and that I've been working from home that I've noticed it all and today is the first time I've ever asked to see inside. Just to clarify there are only 4 houses in my street so not many people. It's not like a whole street is asking to look but point taken, I will keep away. I definitely won't be speaking with the management company so no concern there. Thanks again everyone. Everyone has a bit of an interest in the property as some of our houses are attached to the building... Including a bit of mine...... So when the cellar flooded, some of us knew about it!!!!
