What kind of shower do I want?

Upstairs small en-suite.

It’ll be running off a mega flo.

Want something with a bit of room, not too much cleaning or silicon bits where the silicon seal goes mouldy, want floor to stay dry.

Want it to look good!

Everything with a shower screen seems to have silicon rubber strips everything.

Sounds like you've talked yourlsef into a wet room. Full on wet room will have no screen and the tiling is shaped to channel water to the drain. No silicon.
An easier way is to have a walk in shower but there you have a tray (optional) and a single screen so a bit of silicone.

I guess the other option is to create a block built 'tub' and tile that and have a shower curtain, again no silicone, but a hoofing great step in. Haven't really described that too well as I doubt it's a contender!

Loofah01 you sound like you know what you're on about Grin I'm in a similar search for a tiny ensuite. We've had issues with poorly fitted shower trays meaning leaks into the room downstairs. I had been looking at wet rooms but found lots of leak horror stories with them too.

Sorry for hijacking OP!

You have an unvented cylinder, so you need a thermostatic mixer. Aqualisa are very good.

I find overhead drenchers are not as good as you might expect. A wall-mounted squirter is better, posssibly with a supplementary hand-held

You speak of damp, so you need an effective extractor fan that comes on automatically every time the room is used, with a run-on timer to keep extracting after you leave.

If you have access above the ceiling, for example in a loft, you can use a ducted inline fan. Some of these are very powerful and quiet.

Thanks both of you!

Not a wet room as don't want the floor to be wet.

I think probably a shower screen and a walk in shower with a tray. But just one screen.

nice big tray. at least a metre long, I'd say, so you can fling your limbs around without hidding the side.

These Mira Flight Level trays look great...

To replace a bath I think I might go for one of these. Do I need the anti-slip version though. What's your opinion @PigletJohn? Anyone got one?

quite a fair size but it looks like you will need a wooden floor to put the waste and trap underneath. Prererably with access so you can get at it when it goes wrong or leaks.

I don't know about non slip, but I do recomend grab-rails at about hip height. You can get stainless ones that resemble towel rails, not very expensive, but the fitter will need to know where the studs are if your walls are not blockwork.

700 is quite narrow for a shower. 900 x 1700 is long enough to stop water straying out of the shower if you have only a glass side panel.

We have a Bette floor for our walk in shower. They are pretty much non slip. We have non slip large format tiles in the bathroom which join the Bette floor. They are actually metal but we think ours is brilliant. There is only one joint and You cannot see any silica. It’s a totally flat shower floor with all drainage underneath. They have them in around 20 plus colours. I have a huge drench head that can tilt and a hand held too.

Last but by no means least - tank around the shower. Make sure everything is watertight.

Oh, and whatever you do, make sure the shower does not move and flex. Buy a solid ceramic or metal one.
