UPVC woodgrain sash windows

Hello,

We have started laying out a budget for our renovation (starting in Aug, eeek!!) and have had vastly different quotes for UPVC woodgrain sash windows. Has anyone in the London area had these done recently and how much did you pay for windows and installation? Ideally from a FENSA accredited company that does both - i.e. not the online supply only companies.

Thanks!

Try Sash Windows, London.

We bought our own
Worked out about 550 a windows supply only
Probably add 150 per window fitted, that would be cost price, so the company will need to make a profit
850 a window is probably fair, much more than that and you are being overcharged

@edibletreats sorry to resurrect this thread but do you mind saying how you got on with your windows? We are looking at the same thing at the moment but I'm really struggling to find an installer if we supply only - and if we choose supply and fit from the same company the costs are insane! Who did you use in the end and were you happy with them?

Be wary of getting them at all if they are not fitted correctly then the gap where the window meets the frame is uneven which can leave them a bit drafty. To be honest as they are not a sealed unit they are stil drafty the pile that blocks the draft on hours looks like it will never last for years. Are there sealed units that look like sash and case as that’s what I would do if I had my time again. Also if the window is oversized the top can’t open and the bottom can’t come in only up. I got a 1/3 to 2/3rd split and that was a mistake I can’t reach the locks and I’m 5 7. To be honest I would steer clear

Hi @allaboutmoving

We ended up going for a supply and fit company and paying the extortionate amount. To add insult to injury they have been by far the most incompetent suppliers we have worked with in the whole of the build and I would not recommend them at all!

Sorry - can't be much help!

It was some years ago now, but for our new -Georgian style windows, we had wood grain sashes with period features and brass fittings from a co. called Bygone Windows - I don’t know whether they’re still going. They were considerably more expensive than standard UPVC DG, but infinitely nicer. You have to get up really close to see that they’re not the original wood.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/07/2021 13:21

…neo-Georgian…

Smallkeys · 06/07/2021 23:42

You and me both @edibletreats it seems paid a fortune and a catalogue of disaster

Alexalee · 07/07/2021 07:26

My dd has upvc woodgrain in her cottage, the neighbour has normal upvc with the 50 50 split. Dds look 1000 times better, and as a pp said, you have to get up close to tell they aren't original sashes
Same with most things in construction though, the quality of the fitter makes a huge difference
