Cheadle Hulme / Heaton Moor / Bramhall - Relocating

Hi all

We're looking to start TTC, but we currently live in London (SW), and as much as we love it here we don't want to stay in a rented flat forever.

Our families are both up north so it makes sense that we'd move up there, so we can afford to buy a house, and also be close to family.

We're quite set on being around Stockport, and we think we're down to 3 areas - Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall and Heaton Moor. We've lived around Putney/Wimbledon and they seem to have a similar 'vibe'.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on any of the areas, any pluses/minuses to consider? We know the areas fairly well now, but not in terms of schools or family life.

Bit of additional info: We're looking for a 3-4 bed semi or a small detached (ideal - can't cope with sharing walls with other flats anymore 😂, but budget prob won't stretch to that). Basically we want a town but with access to green space, but not isolated - walkable to get bits from the shop / go for a coffee / to the pub. And access to trains running to Stockport & Manchester for shopping/drinks/work etc. All seem to tick the box, with slightly less going on in Bramhall, but maybe it has more green space?

I guess it's more on opinions on nurseries/schools/family life/general feel of the place - any input welcome!

We lived in Heaton Moor and loved it. My husband was a teacher there in an outstanding primary, though most of the primary schools have good reputations. We have since moved abroad but I’d happily lived there again. Great restaurants and shops and a quick train ride into Manchester. Also walkable or short tram ride to Didsbury.

That’s great, thanks so much @slewts, great feedback. Hadn’t even thought about proximity to Didsbury, that’s definitely an added plus. Just a shame about the prices - seems very expensive round there!

Does anyone have any further thoughts on the other areas?

Of those 3 l would go with Heaton Moor. There is much more going on there and better transport links e.g. train, tram and Manchester circular. There are some great primaries and for secondaries Priestnall is sought after
