Church bought our neighbours house

Our neighbours have just completed on their sale. We've been told the church have bought it. Does anyone know what this means? Who will live there? It's a large house.

My parents sold our 4 bed detatched to a church, they still own it 30 years later.

My mate lived across the road.
The pastor moved in with his wife/2 late teens our age so she became pals with them.
She said there were House Groups each week, so half a dozen or so people popping round for prayer/bible study, coffee mornings for the mature retired ladies and such like. It caused a fair few grumbles with parking though.

It's a perfectly reasonable question. My friend lives on a private housing estate in a small culture de sac and the adjoining property of his semi detached house was sold recently to a charity that looks after children with mental disability's on the low functioning end of the spectrum. He literally has screaming all day and all night through his walls. They've put sound proofing up but they can still hear it. His house is now unsellable so he is stuck there in a living hell. It's not unreasonable to want to live somewhere you are happy!

If it's only just been sold I'd assume the keypad would be for builders and decorators access, rather than for hordes of transients to be staying there... Presumably it would need at least a bit of work to turn it into a refuge or halfway house?

Many churches now have online newsletters with details of what they're doing, projects etc have you tried searching for a website?

A refuge perhaps
Very much needed in lots of communities

The house next to me is owned by the Methodist church. A retired minister and his wife live there

FeelinFagin · 10/06/2020 20:22

Just "pray" they don't turn it into a church. A church (something like Church of the Nazarene) set up attached to my cousin's house and the racket every day from the hymn singing and organ was enough to drive the most sane mad. Thankfully it dwindled over time and now stands empty.

notapizzaeater · 10/06/2020 20:23

Wouldn't they need planning to change the use ?

EwwSprouts · 10/06/2020 20:27

Which church? Our area is seeing an expansion in Plymouth Brethren numbers and they are buying large houses with large gardens just to be family homes.

CoolShoeshine · 10/06/2020 20:28

The c if e have bought a few houses locally to where I live for retired vicars or bishops. They get free housing in return for doing occasional services or prayer groups. Some are quite large houses.

Holiday home for the Pope. First thing they will do is raise the height of the carport so they can get the Popemobile in
