Did you get your kitchen worktop from your kitchen supplier, and if not, why not?

If most kitchen suppliers (take DIY Kitchens for example) price match on worktops, why do people purchase from a different supplier? I've been advised by several people to not purchase my worktop from Howdens/DIY etc because it's cheaper not to, but I don't understand this if they price match?

I didn't (DIY Kitchens) because they didn't stock what I wanted.
Didn't know they price matched, but they were more expensive (on others I was looking at) than Worktop Express (I think) who I purchased from.

We wanted a particular granite and went to a stonemason to choose the slab we wanted.

We could only get a max lenght of 2.4m from the kitchen supplier, could get 3m elsewhere which is what we needed to avoid a joint.

I should have added a disclaimer, that obviously the kitchen supplier may not have the specific worktop that you want...

I, for example, would like the the Silestone (or similar) Calacatta gold which DIY kitchens do provide as do a million other suppliers. Not sure why I was advised not to purchase from DIY if they price match.

@EmmaGrundyForPM I'm clueless in this regard. How did you find the stonemason? Is there such a thing of having one bespoke?

We bought elsewhere because we didn’t like what they had on offer.

LauraJayne15 · 10/06/2020 11:33

I didn’t and DIY Kitchens weren’t offering a price match at the time (or at least I didn’t see this advertised anywhere)

There is a stonemason firm in the town where we live so we went there. They mostly do memorial/grave stones but they also do worktops. They were really good, came out and measured up, spent ages talking us through options. Dh loved being able to choose the actual piece of granite in its unpolished state. We could have got it cheaper online but wouldnt have had the same level of service and wouldn't have been able to choose the pieces we wanted.

Almost every town still has a stonemason for headstones, so you can just contact them that way.
Not sure why people buy from where or who told you not to!
I’d just shop around and either buy what I really wanted or beat price depending on flexibility re money / style

I want it to fit perfectly and the kitchen place didn't actually do the one we wanted. The worktop supplier will come and template it after the kitchen is installed then come and fit the worktop. Pretty decent service and price too

Absolutely nothing wrong with getting it from the kitchen place though

Lots of kitchen worktop suppliers around. Just google. It can be a lot more hassle to tie in fitters and a different support though. Most fitters leave you with a temp worktop prior to templating. Then you wait for the worktop. Then the fitter puts in the hob, sink, tap etc. That’s why it’s easier to let one company organise it all. Their mistake is their mistake: not yours!
