Shower enclosure controls, outside enclosure, how/which type?

Thinking of getting an offset quad shower enclosure where our bath is now, about 1200x800mm. Made an appointment at our local showroom and checked fixtures out. Just getting to the end of my hour when I realised I'd not really looked at shower types.

We've an exposed thermostatic mixer, over the bath, off a combi boiler atm.

The woman pointed to some where the on/off bits where outside the enclosure but I didn't get chance to ask more about them. The one she pointed out was wired into the electrics. But how do they work?

You would do best to look at aqualisa showers to get you started. They do showers with a battery operated remote control. Does allow you to have fun/be mean if you have teenagers that sit in there for 20 minutes. Hard wired ones though, are electronically operated too, all that happens is that there will be a mixer pump elsewhere and then the shower head and controls in the shower

i personally wouldn't waste money on a remote control outside the shower my parents have it, they played with it for a few weeks and now don't bother. I had my showers plumbed so i can turn them on and off from outside the shower, which means i can wait till the cold water has run in before jumping in! you don't need a special type of shower to do this, the plumber just uses longer pipe work iyswim.

Yes I see, but how do you turn them off/up/down when in the shower?

@Muchlywrong thanks, I've been looking at the Aqualisa ones.

I like the idea of an exterior on/off switch and controls in the shower too. Is there always a mixer pump then? In the loft would work I suppose. :)

@sbplanet this isn't mine, but this is similar to what we have...

Loft is the general position most people have them in, but if it's in a bath, you can position it under the bath. Always think the digital ones are better than the mechanical ones in my opinion. And have a longer life than mechanical showers generally.
You'll also find that you have to do a lot of work, if there is ever an issue with it. Normally involves having to take out tiles and if really badly fitted, sometimes more.
