Garden Office

DH has been WFH since March and has now been told this will continue until at least next year, if not longer. When we thought it was just for a month or so I let him have my work space and I have been barely managing to work from my dressing table. Obviously it isn't doing my mental health a lot of good being in one place day and night, so we need to look at alternatives. There is literally no room anywhere else in the house so a garden office is the only solution.

For those who already have them, may I have your top tips please. What features do you have that you think work well and what do you wish you could have in retrospect? What sort of size have you got? We want to stay under the 15 square meters to avoid planning permission and we have a small garden.

My brother has Garden Retreats - likes it. Used it mostly for a teen -hangout but now that he is having to work from home he is finding it very handy.

Incredibly lucky but dp built ours, I'm pretty sure it came in around under 10k can't help but think if it's a simplish structure you're just better off getting a small local builder to do it.

Agree - Total cost of mine was going to be over £20k for a 2.4m x 3m shed effectively. It seemed worth it at the time because the whole thing could be done quickly - in place in eight weeks with minimum work and stress from me. (Ha Ha)

Now I have paid £3.5k for nothing and have huge amounts of stress and aggro - and didn't have it for when I needed it!

My friend has just got one of these. It is basically just a shell though. You have to prep the ground, build it and paint it yourself. Plus sort out electricity (although they do sell solar panels that provide electricity for 2 lights and 2 usb chargers).

We will probably go the diy route, my tastes far exceed my budget for ready made. My DH is keen and my brother has cabin building experience, I would rather save money on the structure to spend on a air conditioning unit.
I quite fancy the one like this picture, it will take up a chunk of garden but it will be so worth it.
I'm not worrying about having to maintain wood, I mange the fence and the sheds fine, that is why I have four teenagers Grin
**@huffaloopa* and @KatyRyan*

I've been researching garden offices too. Want an insulated one that can be used all year round and have electrics etc. Low maintenance is desirable.

A lot of garden offices I saw need some on-going maintenance since they tend to be made of wood/timber. That's something I wanted to avoid.

I found this: THE NEW QCB ZERO MAINTENANCE PORTABLE AFFORDABLE GARDEN OFFICE FROM BOOTHS GARDEN STUDIOS by Booth Garden Studios.

"The "QC" stands for Quarter Century - 25 years where you won't have to paint or stain your garden office."

They are deliver nationally and can install. Pricing suggests that they should be quality. Would be interesting to know if anyone else on here has had a QCB garden office?
We have a Booths Garden studio and absolutely love it. Well made and no need for a base as its on stilts.

My dh has been working in it and loves it. Personally I would have air con but he is too tight....

I already have three garden buildings and foxes and rats are absent. I’m in the middle of the country. Maybe they have more fun elsewhere? All our buildings are on concrete bases.

CopperBeeches · 31/05/2020 11:55

Booths say that no deposit is required. Certainly worth bearing in mind - (as long as they are good).

Bubbletrouble43 · 31/05/2020 12:44

Yes to concrete base. 4 years in no issues with pests of any sort.

We are going cheap and getting a tuin log cabin. Does anyone know if mm wood? Or has anyone bought from tuin?
How do you afford to get a 20 k one? A loan?
