Finding my drains

Does anyone know how I find out where the drains are in my property, we are looking to build an extension and our builder needs to know where they are before he starts planning? Thanks

If you have the deeds of your property they often include a plan of the drains.

Your local water company may have details.

Local water company probably, our plans were £40

When you bought the house you probably had a plan of the local drains from the water board. However they only know about the main drains, not the domestic, or shared drains.
We've been working with the neighbours to map out our drains for the same reason. Lifting manholes to see the inlets and where that water comes from. However there does seem to be a mysterious underground join that I wouldn't have expected without a manhole cover.

If all else fails there are companies that will do a drain survey with an endoscope.

Your water company will have a plan....but don't rely 100% that the positioning is accurate. Ours did have the drain servicing each property but the position where they crossed the garden wasn't as per the plan
