OH and me are hoping to move to Wiltshire and have spotted this. Would love some opinions if anyone lives nearby and can offer some info about the local area. We're currently in Hampshire and trying to do as much research as possible to avoid unnecessary journeys!

when we could have washing machine and tumble dryer right next to bedrooms! Great idea!

But you either have to traipse upstairs during the day to sort it out or put up with the washing machine going at night. Then you have to carry all the wet laundry downstairs to hang it out.

mumsy27 · 26/05/2020 01:30

about 10% price dropped since January, i guess the vendor keen to sell :)

intheningnangnong · 26/05/2020 07:07

I expect this was a B&B so laundry where it was being created.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 26/05/2020 07:10

Love the upstairs utility and the garden but the ceilings are too low for me and it makes the whole house seem dark.

Doryhunky · 26/05/2020 07:11

Big but ugly!

Chattercino · 26/05/2020 07:11

Dark, dark, dark

fartyface · 26/05/2020 07:15

Agree it was a B&B. There is no clear master bedroom and no light upstairs. Ithink it has potential but nope.
Especially if it is at the top of your budget.
How many bedrooms do you need?

Bluntness100 · 26/05/2020 07:16

It’s like a tardis, looks small from the outside but is really big inside, the kitchen etc is lovely but agree it needs a lot of cosmetic work to bring it back. It’s quite tired looking in places.

It’s not a pretty house.

That thatch though is gorgeous.

Laundrywoman · 26/05/2020 07:20

Oooh that's got lots of potential, you could do lots with that over time. I really like it.

leckford · 26/05/2020 07:20

My pet hate is concreted over areas in front of the house, I would get some to come in, dig it all up and re-do with plants and trees would make the house look a million times better

CatToddlerUprising · 26/05/2020 07:23

Apart from two bedrooms, it looks like there are no windows upstairs. Might be mould paradise?

Roselilly36 · 26/05/2020 07:27

A lot of house for the money, seems really good value, not that I know that area tbh. With a few £’s spent on it, I think you could make it look lovely. Gorgeous setting.

Eve · 26/05/2020 07:32

What user said,

You will need to drive everywhere, there are a few villages in that area but they have very limited facilities.

The main road is busy and the other roads through the villages are narrow so you can’t divert or easily take alternative routes.

Traffic into and through Salisbury is a Pain. Like everywhere lots of new estates being built.

PurBal · 26/05/2020 07:37

You say that you want to have to drive everywhere. I get that, both DH and I grew up very rural. But that house is on what looks like a busy road and not set back very far. The house itself would need some TLC but otherwise seems ok.

Batmanandbobbin · 26/05/2020 07:38

I love it. Bar the red carpet!

weepingwillow22 · 26/05/2020 07:43

Who owns the plot of land to the right with the caravan on in street view? It looks like a potential building plot. You get a lot of house for the money but not keen on the decor or layout. Do you need 6 bedrooms?

ivykaty44 · 26/05/2020 07:50

I love a bit of house porn, so often search through the pages on rightmove

What struck me about this house, although it’s very well presented, is it’s so very dark & this would put me if the house

tara66 · 26/05/2020 08:29

How much ''looking'' have you done ? I think there will be severally houses coming onto market soon - you might see something better. It is not a beauty and as someone said - you'll have to drive every where. The interior photos are poor as the photographer did not use any extra lighting it seems. You may need to spend time and money on garden and decorating unless you like the ''plain'' look.

hammeringinmyhead · 26/05/2020 11:26

I'd be looking about half an hour away from Salisbury myself. If you go Warminster way you get a lot more house for your money.

Ohnonotnow · 26/05/2020 11:39

Thanks for the info and opinions everyone, it's interesting to see different takes on it.
We haven't looked at loads as yet and it doesn't help that we can't really go out too much yet! ( and we're both still working too)

Ideally, we want to be semi rural, a walkable local shop/pub etc would be lovely. I need to be able to get to Salisbury centre for work and don't really want to drive more than 20 minutes for work if possible (although working shifts does help with not having to deal with rush hour traffic).
Outdoor space is important, more so than the amount of bedrooms! 3/4 would be perfectly fine, it's just us and teenage DS
OH doesn't like thatched roof or stone cladding 😆. Budget is 5k absolute tops.
If it wasn't for the current situation I'd apply for location, location, location - if anyone wants to be my Phil and Kirsty....😁

Hammeringinmyhead- is right warminster you have best of both Salisbury and Bath with more on your doorstep

2catsand2kids · 26/05/2020 12:10

What about Tisbury, it’s about 30 minutes drive into Salisbury but it has a train station and is about 15 minutes by train into Salisbury. It's a beautiful village and has a couple of pubs, a small high street and the surrounding area is lovely.

You could get something like this which just needs a bit of updating but is set nicely back from the road and has a big drive, double garage and big garden:

Or something with more character like this:

Fordingbridge , Downton or Whiteparish might be worth thinking about.

SlightyJaded · 27/05/2020 12:18

The three bedroom deteached in Tisbury that @2catsand2kids posted (last link) is by far the nicest house. Proper potential to be stunning. I would go period, high ceilings, big windows, pretty setting every single time.
