Help with kitchen layout, please

Can someone please help me with my kitchen layout? We will be moving shortly but need to get the kitchen replaced as it is currently unworkable. It’s quite a small space and we need it to be properly functional for a couple of years until we extend the property.

I’m not so bothered about storage as there is a big walk in pantry, sort of like an under stairs cupboard but not under stairs. My issue is mainly the worktop space. The amount as it is, is fine (we also have worktop space in the utility room off the kitchen). However, I’m not sure how we will be able to fit our kettle on toaster without it looking overcrowded.

Anybody got any bright ideas before we go ahead with it? Thanks.

Oops, forgot to attach the design plans. This is essentially all it is. The fridge/freezer will be opposite the ovens and next to the f/f is the wall in pantry.

Do you mean moving out while the work is done then moving back in or moving out and renting? & are you really only going to keep a brand new kitchen for 2 years?!

anxietrist · 25/05/2020 15:20

...I'd put kettle & toaster in corner bits

anxietrist · 25/05/2020 15:21

& prep food on the bit between the oven and sink

Anxietrist we recently bought the property but unfortunately the kitchen had been almost ripped out for some bizarre reason when the previous owners left. We were planning to extend but due to the current situation decided to leave it for a couple of years at least. We still need a kitchen in that time though. I was thinking of putting them in the corners but was wondering if there was anything else we could do, thank you.

Could you move the sink to the left, so the workspace in the corner is a larger, uninterrupted run?

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 25/05/2020 17:36

I second the boiling tap and suggest keeping your toaster in the pantry or a cupboard. I store mine on top of the fridge because I hate cluttered worktops but the bonus is extra worktop space. Kitchen design looks fab by the way!

RandomMess · 25/05/2020 17:36

We just use hob top kettle on our induction job, incredibly fast!

Built in microwave?

You could put a return on the work top to make a U shape. Would be easier with a floor plan.

StarFish2045 · 26/05/2020 00:09

We can’t move the sink to the left as that space is for the dishwasher. We could install a boiling water tap but I was trying to avoid this.

SerBrienne I hate cluttered worktops too and considering we only have a small amount of space I don’t want the kitchen to look closed in with no functional space. I hadn’t considered putting the toaster in a cupboard or the pantry. That’s a great idea! Thank you.

RandomMess the microwave is built in above the oven. Sorry, should have made that clear in my OP.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Honestly hob top kettle, how often do you usually use all 4 rings whilst cooking? We have steamer pans I can honestly say never!

Smallgoon · 26/05/2020 11:48

@RandomMess What do you suggest as an alternative to 4 hobs? Those 2 domino induction hob things? Will just make the kitchen look strange imo

bravotango · 26/05/2020 12:01

I think RandomMess was suggesting a hob top kettle as it wouldn't be in the way given that using all 4 hobs at once is a rare occurrence

StarFish2045 · 26/05/2020 13:00

We’ve never used all 4 rings at the same time RandomMess and can’t see that we ever will either. I’ll have a look at the hob top kettles, thanks.

They aren't expensive just check they are induction compatible and have a whistle!!

Think ours was £12 and lasted 10 years so far!
