colour advice for whole house carpeting colour

I am about to put an elderly relations 3 bedroom house in London on the market as she has moved to a care home. The proceeds will be paying for her longterm care so I want to do a good job. She has not been able to keep it up to date for years , so it is badly in need of a refresh. The local agents have recommended simply removing the contents, painting, and replacing the carpet throughout. I will probably choose a cream colour, like F & Bs tallow, for the walls and I would like to keep the carpet in a continuous colour also, but I could really use some Mumsnet advice, as I have no experience with carpeting. Thank you.

Can it be made a rental to cover the care home costs? Our family did this and was much better to ensure long term costs were covered.

Thank you all for the great advice.
I had never thought of leaving a few pieces of furniture to give prospective buyers a sense of space.
I think its a good idea though. Sorry about the F & B reference. I do realize it as divisive an issue as Brexit. I am pro myself - Ive used it for 30 years and believe the difference it makes to the feel of a room is huge, but hey - Vive le difference!
However, I will be using cheaper paint in this case.
Ill probably go for a Wimbourne white on the walls and a light taupe or grey heathery carpet on the floor. And Ill also listen to the local agent, who has been very helpful regarding renting v selling, etc.
But the advice I have got here on Mumsnet has been very useful indeed.
Thank you for taking the time.
On the point of whether it would be better to rent the house to pay for the long term health care of the owner, we have come to the conclusion that in this particular situation, selling is preferable.
And by the way, 170,000 pounds for two years in residential care is in line with what we are currently paying Issey.

So scary....

Clear the house and repaint in white or cream. Do not touch magnolia, it's dingy and gross.

Rip up the carpets. And scrubs the floorboards. I would not re carpet except maybe Stairs if needed for safety. I know many people, myself included do not like carpet and would rip it up first chance they got.

Not grey. It’s too fashionable.

Neutral beige/sandy colour.

I think Wimborne White and the carpets you suggest will be fine. You could try sanding some floors (lounge?) and get a rug. Depends on what work you want to do. I would take down all curtains and poles. Yes, leave a few bits of decent furniture!

However people who buy a doer upper have vision. By doing this work I’m not sure you will recoup the money. I think these houses appeal to a certain type of person and they might not care too much about new paint and new carpets.
