Is this causing the repulsive smell?

I can smell this awful smell and so moved the fridge/freezer out and I assume this could be causing it. My partner says it's normal to have water in the tub bit at the back and it should just evaporate. It doesn't come off to clean. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Smile

Slosh a bit of bleach into it or Zaflora maybe ?

They do get to look manky but I have never known one to cause a smell. When the fridge is moved I always clean ours - but that is not very often!

It's the trap, always nasty to look at but a drop of bleach and a wipe round should sort it.

We had an annoying whiff for a few days in our kitchen. It was driving us mad and we thought it might be a water leak and had the kitchen kickboards out to check, everything from under the sink, the dishwasher, the washing machine, pouring bleach down the drains inside and out. Checked the contents of the cupboard. Still this persistent whiff.

Finally double checked and found a small but oozing rotten potato in a bag of them that my husband assured me he’d checked... 🤮

So good to find it at last as I could even smell it upstairs at times.

Triple check your vegetables!

Thanks, will pop some Zoflora in and check all the cupboards for any veggies that could be the culprit!

Yeah it's the trap, partner has always managed to get ours off but don't know about different models of fridge! Smells rank though doesn't it!

mumsy27 · 22/05/2020 02:18

yes, very common. water drips from inside a fridge and drags bits of food downward to the container, it will smell like off milk.
if you can remove it, then it's great some of them they don't.

You can scrub out the dissh/tray with detergent and a small brush, and sponge out the residue. They often contain mould or fungus and dirt. Unplug first and do not allow drips or splashes onto electrical parts.

Raw meat in the fridge touching the back wall, so that juices run down with the condensation, is a bad source.

But a rotting potato does smell awful.

SoupDragon · 22/05/2020 07:42

Rotting potato was my first thought but cleaning the trap certainly isn't going to do any harm!
