Likelihood of getting planning permission...

Likelihood that we would be allowed to put a small shower room in?

The prior owner of the flat knocked one large cupboard into another (and apparently got in trouble for it) and now it is the size of a small box room. It is next to the bathroom and I'd really like to put a toilet and shower in it.

We live on the first floor, 2 more flats above us, likely the same layout. The flat is a 3 bedroom and only has one bathroom.

If a shower room was a nono, do you think they'd let us put just the toilet and sink in?

Know it's probably anyone's guess, but what do you think?

*in Scotland if that changes things.

Not a listed building obv.
Ex council flats. Though some still owned by council.

It's building control permission to need
You can contact the Council to discuss
Might be a bit tricky at present but they are normally very helpful

Would like to know how it goes. We want to do the same to our flat

don't you need permission from leaseholder ie council as pp said to do any knocking down of walls or structural redesign ? Once you do that & get checked with building control it should be ok (if they agree which I suspect wont be to much of a problem)

In Scotland the Council are very unlikely to be leaseholder
You are likely to need building control consents

Well the walls are already down so really just the permission to put the water pipes through ect I guess.

The flat is freehold not leasehold.
It would be the council I would need to write to for planning permission though.

op is it a shared freehold?

Bunnymumy · 20/05/2020 13:32

Not to my knowledge.
But if the council owns some flats in the building still then maybe it must be? Would have to dig out the paperwork.
