How much were your blinds?

We've just moved into a house with a large bay window and the blinds are old and broken meaning they have to stay closed. I'm wanting them replaced but struggling to get a quote online.

Obviously we're a bit skint at the minute but I'm trying to get a vague idea of price because I don't know if we'd be looking at £300 or £3000 - either way we'd have to save but it I'm trying to work out how many months I'll be waiting.

So if you don't mind telling me what type of window and blinds do you have and how much was it?

My window is 175cms wide, the blind cost £140 including fitting. Local companies are cheaper than Hilarys.

I have a big bay window upstairs and downstairs. For those two windows and a small box room window at the front it cost us £650 including VAT and fitting. We went with a small local company to us as opposed to a large company. I did get a quote (and the longest sales speech ever which was not welcome when I had a hungry 4 month old at the time) for £2400 for the same thing from Hillarys.

We went for simple white faux wood venetians. I did want plantation shutters but they were about 3 times the price.

3 good sized windows pale grey Venetian blinds (faux wood) £350 for all 3. Shopped around and compared quotes with Hilarys and went for a small company. Based in the North.

Ooh are you north east @Bubblebee7 . If you are, could you pm me the name of the company please?

How big are the windows. John Lewis do a good quality wood, wide slat Venetian, very easy to install, though out of stock online at the moment for larger sizes. Similar look to shutters but let in far more light.

Dunelm & Argos etc do similar, look the same but function not as good. If you're not having to trim, installing your own blinds is easy & cheaper.

@OutComeTheWolves No I’m not sorry.

TattiePants · 19/05/2020 14:59

@OutComeTheWolves I've just had a quote from a local business for a made to measure Roman blind for a 160 x 180 bathroom window. It's costing £170 to make which includes everything except the main fabric. I'm actually using a duvet cover so in total it should cost £215 which is a bargain as the alternative I was looking at was £500-600. Where in the NE are you and what type of blind are you looking for?

Eminybob · 19/05/2020 15:17

I got my kitchen blinds from here and got the decorator who was doing the painting to fit them.
I think I paid about £170 for a large and a small window. Really pleased with them.

Web blinds ( a division of Hillary's I believe) are very good and reasonably priced if you can measure and install them yourself - which I guess you would have to anyway at the moment. I've bought lots from them.

Should say you can get an instant quote if you select the blind and enter dimensions. They also do free material samples.

Thighmageddon · 19/05/2020 16:00

We used blinds2go. Saved us lots of money.

mudpiemaker · 19/05/2020 21:58

Blinds2go for every type of blind, we have had roman blinds, wooden venetian, roller blinds, black out roller blinds. We have used them a lot over the last 2 houses. They send samples so you know exactly what you are getting.

Obviously you have to fit them yourselves but you could always pay a local handyman/woman if your skills don't stretch.

Failing that, use a local blind company not Hilarys or any other national one.

KingOfDogShite · 20/05/2020 08:14

We used blinds2go too. Very impressed by them and they couldn’t be any easier to fit.
