Moving to Cheshire, near Macclesfield

Hello all,

DH has had a new job and promotion confirmed, so we are moving to live near his work in Macclesfield.
I had a good friend at uni that lived in the area so know the odd village from trips to visit her.

Any advice on where to live? (Budget £600k-£1m)

Prestbury- cute, but expensive
Alderley Edge- we liked it, but think we might feel poor compared to all the mansions etc Would have to get a modest house
Bollington- Very cute little village, not sure there is enough going on, seems a bit of a retirees heaven if you see what I mean?
Macclesfield town- Some nice big houses, cheaper than other areas, but doesn't feel quite as nice?
Tytherington- went to see a nice new (ish) build there, bigger houses for money that Prestbury, but a bit soulless

Tytherington is nice but a bit quiet.
Alderney edge is for the mega wealthy really, depends if you like that kind of vibe (I don't personally).
Macclesfield centre is ok just avoid 'the moss rose' area as it's not v nice (so I've heard)

Hope this helps a bit

(I'd pick the centre personally as more to do)

I’d go for Bollington. Lovely walks, nice community spirit with pubs, cafes etc...
Have you had a look at Henbury? On the countryside side of Macclesfield with some really lovely houses.

Knutsford? It’s a little bit further away but a lovely place. Decent high street, good supermarkets etc. Very quaint

Hi

I moved to Tytherington ten years ago - it does lack character compared to Bollington or central Macc and that was an initial concern but we grew to love it really quickly.

We can access all Bollington has to offer - it's a great place with plenty going on.

We can walk to town in thirty minutes, useful for bars/restaurants/railway station.

My kids went to school in Tytherington and made some amazing friends, as they grew up they have been able to get themselves to the bigger shops, cinema (Macc has Cinemac, a small cinema) in Stockport and Manchester by using trains.

My lock down walks have consisted of town, Bollington or Prestbury and I feel very lucky!

Rent first, get to know the area and then buy.
