What's everyone choosing for worktops these days? I was looking at Minerva but reviews have been bad to mixed at best. Mirostone and Caesarstone seem to be in the running but just don't know!

Quartz

or

Symphony is the basic range used by most of the new build developers I have seen and seem to have decent reviews. they have a good kitchen visualiser as well.

or

Dekton - highly rated!

we have just been to order our new kitchen this afternoon and didn't want to spend as much on worktops as the whole kitchen cost so we have gone for laminate

willowsmumsy · 15/05/2020 17:24

We went for silestone which is fab. It's a bit cheaper and less awesome than dekton!!

Loofah01 · 15/05/2020 18:05

I heard of Dekton - isn't that the one no-one can afford lol?!

Will read up on Symphony and try to find somewhere to send me some samples...

I've got mid grey silestone. It's lovely, never marks and looks as good as new.

I have corian on the worktops and granite on the island. Both look good and stand up to family life.

isseywith4vampirecats · 16/05/2020 09:57

i looked at the dekton ones yesterday they are fab but at £2000 per worktop and we need two lengths that would be £4000 just for worktops and as the units come to around £2000 I couldn't justify that level of expense so we went for Carrera marble aminate at £500

Loofah01 · 16/05/2020 11:59

Yep, I found the Dekton too pricey too!
Just been to a showroom and forgot to take bloody door samples with me so a bit of a wasted trip.

right now my brilliantly clever OH is driving me mad we had the plans all sorted yesterday went to DIY showroom to iron out the final bugs after he has spent all week changing this changing that , got it all sorted they have emailed the quote and he is in the process of changing the bloody sink unit again he has been so nit picking if hed paid for it right now I would strangle him all I want is the kitchen ordered and a date

mencken · 16/05/2020 15:13

told by the kitchen designer to stay away from Minerva as it scratches really easily. Remember buying a kitchen is like arranging a wedding, they assume you have infinite money and no brain - so if a kitchen designer says it is crap, it is really crap.

laminate is fine - and stands up to real life, hot pans and keys chucked on it which is what happens here.

Loofah01 · 16/05/2020 16:34

Currently looking at quartz 'Carrara / carrera...

@isseywith4vampirecats Ahh, it's a man thing! We like to fiddle lol This is basically why we're looking at worktops again, I wanted to change the colour of the kitchen at the last minute and can't and now I don't like the worktop we picked out. Happy married life, no stress lol

We did our kitchen 18 months ago and despite the upkeep, we went for wood.

Oil it monthly and careful with heat. It looks amazing and we're so happy with it.

Pipandmum · 16/05/2020 17:26

Recycled glass is due for a resurgence.

isseywith4vampirecats · 16/05/2020 19:03

@Loofah01 funnily enough the worktop is the one thing we both agreed on from the start hes a mathematician and he has micro managed the whole project we have gone for DIY kitchens Altino high gloss in petrol blue units with white Carrera marble patterned worktops

I had initially ordered Silestone for my new build but the price was eye watering. Can’t justify paying £2.5K more than a perfectly acceptable and good looking laminate.
