Shower Cabins - Anyone Got One?

We're revamping our very old bathroom and DH seems to have his heart set on a shower cabin. In our Victorian house we've been plagued by leaks, tap breakdowns etc and he is convinced a cabin is low maintenance.

Has anyone got one? How have you found it in terms of maintenance and general use?

Is the bath a decent size?

We're looking at one like this:

Wow, I've never come across those! Would it not look a bit out of place in a Victorian house? And I think I'd feel very claustrophobic in the bath...

It looks like a monster piece of kit! I think there is a danger that it would loom over you. I would only think about that if I had an enormous bathroom, and even then I would really consider separate bath and shower cubicle.

We have recently replaced one with another after 8 years. The thermostat failed. So was necessary. We have it because of over bath shower leaks. Ours is slightly smaller as we have a very small bathroom. The bath bit has rarely been used.
We never have leaks!

Apart from the final failure of the thermostat in the old one we have never had a maintenance issue .
They have a sanitising/cleaning? function. I would, however, say they take a bit of cleaning. I usually do it whilst taking a shower.
Oh and I don't really use the steam function.

It actually makes our small bathroom look larger.
They are also quite easy to replace as it becomes a bit like plumbing in a washing machine although putti g it together is a bit of a job.

We had one. It was great for keeping all the moisture in, but when there was a leak in the pipes behind it XH (a plumber) had a terrible job trying to repair them without taking a lot of the unit out. That being said as it was his own house, XH may well have bodged the job Grin

Looks like a prop from Dr Who!

We took one out of our house. To be honest it was all singing and dancing with jets/lights etc but it was a complete monstrosity!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/05/2020 22:20

It’s quite ugly. It’s not normal for showers and baths to leak. You should just be able to sort those out.

Sunisshining12 · 14/05/2020 22:58

Wait until you see one up close in a showroom.

Each to their own, but I found them cheap, nasty & ugly!

Costco have some nice ones. Many new flats now are required to have these as they are effectively self contained and much less likely to leak and deluge the flat below

GherkinsOnToast · 15/05/2020 18:55

The house we are buying has 2 of these - the one in the family bathroom is a monstrosity and being replaced by a good old fashion bath with shower over!

roses2 · 16/05/2020 20:03

Thanks all! I'll stick to a normal bath with overhead shower Smile

Just crashing the thread, we were thinking of one of these as we only have space for corner bath with shower over and I hate grotty shower curtains, has anyone got an alternative?
