Kitchen layout

We are having a new kitchen and with rather more time on my hands I'm looking at the layout and wondering if there is something different that might be a better layout. The architect did it and I've followed and so has the kitchen company. The island is more central in the actual layout.

Would anyone else do something different? It's going to be a full height stack on the left vertical, counter top and cupboards across the bottom of the 'U' just counter top at the sink area.

Anyone suggestions?

This explains the zone bit really well.

I go on the principle that drink zone, food prep zone and piling up pots zone must all have dedicated area. Must always be able to make tea!

Lightlypoached suggestion is the same principle. I wish I had a big enough room to do that.

That's really really helpful thank you.

A lie down seems good, but what you really need Is Karen from OnePlan !

If you have the space for an island, please don't turn it into a peninsula. The dead end will end up as a bottle neck if you have lots of people in there at once. Also the way you have it at the moment, a child/anyone could help themselves to a drink or snack from the fridge without having to fully come 'into' the kitchen and get in your way.

I really like how you have the tall units of the back wall and then cupboards on the side. I think that's a smart use of the space as too many tall units can be claustrophobic.

I'm not bothered about big spaces but I take pp's point about distance.

I would personally prefer to have the hob on the island to face people and be able to chat.

Whatever you go for, have lots of pan drawers and lots of pull out baskets!

@Katjolo

This is a space 6.35 x 3.5/4 - although then has space beyond. Some good ideas from people

I keep looking at this-do you have children? Do you have any space for toys/arts and crafts storage?

@Whattodowithaminute

Yes, we have other spaces so it doesn’t need to be in this area - although no doubt it will stray!
