Experiences of buying new build flat

(Tried on Chat, but no responses so pls excuse double post)

Just wondering if anyone had any wisdom to share...

Have a one bed but lack storage. Very vaguely thinking about moving to a nice new two bed for a bit more room.

Single, no kids and that is v unlikely to ever change so I do not have to think about a garden though I would like a balcony.

So just wondering if you have bought a new flat how it was, any tips etc etc.

Again, obviously they'll go up @Neverending2020. Most management packs give a list of the current fees.

Hmm, I've not heard of permission fees, we didn't have any on our newbuild flat but it does sound like something to look into. We did have the management fees, these went up some years but down on others, however we knew that we wouldn't have to pay for the grounds to be kept nice etc on top of that so we felt it was fair.

@WombatChocolate

Interesting you mention Help to Buy. I don't think that it was around when I bought last time.

When I was looking at some of the developments last night and they show you a list of flats and the floorplams etc and some were marked Help To Buy so I had a brief look last night.

Seems there are special schemes for new homes and for those buying in London. I had not explored further though.

@HappyDinosaur your lease will say things like "no non-structural alterations without the permission of the landlord/management company", "no dogs without permission". They will charge you for considering (and hopefully granting) your request to do those things.

We don't live in it anymore but it did not say that, we could have any pets we wanted and make any changes internally that we wanted without any permission needed.
