Tile Paint: Any good experiences?

I've read so many reviews about tile paint that I have a headache. Thought I'd turn to Mumsnet! Has anyone here had a good experience with tile paint? I'd love to use some in my kitchen but I'm unconvinced it's any good and will surely peel/crack...

Bad experiences are welcome too. Please let me know what brands you've tried.

Thanks so much to anyone who can help!

I want to do this after a family member successfully did theirs and it looks great! Be interested in others experience though....

I did it in a small section of tiles in the small loo years ago. I found it hard to apply smoothly and fairly obvious close up, but looked fine from a distance.

Yes I did last summer! Painted kitchen and bathroom floor tiles and wall tiles. Looks great, I was surprised. My biggest tip is to get hold of small sponge rollers and do as much as you can with them, and a brush to touch up if needed. Don’t do it with paintbrushes as the paint is very thick and will look streaky. Good luck!

Brand: Ronseal one coat. Expensive but worth it

We painted our weird beigey-brown dappled tiles in the kitchen with white tile paint from Wilkos 18 months ago.

Like a PP mentioned the paint is very thick and my DH painted the tiles as he has the patience to make it streak free!

It looks great, there are a few areas that aren’t perfect but I’d take anything over the weird beige-brown dappled tiles. Some areas have chipped slightly (near the sink and where utensil pots have rubbed against) and also we have to make a concerted effort to slightly move the kettle back as it boils as there’s a bit of rippling from the steam/heat there.

In summary - it looks much better than expected and spruced the kitchen up a treat, very cheaply. We’re planning to retile in future when we have an extension so has done the job for now Smile

We used grey tile paint (Ronseal I think) for the splash back tiles of our bathroom sink. It obviously doesn't look as good as if we'd retiled, but it covered a gross shade of terracotta and has stood the test of time reasonably well. Think it's been on for 3 years now and it's only just starting to need a touch up. Is it a big area you're thinking of doing? Go for it I say!

Personally not a fan of painting on tiles, ceramics etc. It can look good if you do a neat job and done properly, although not to my taste. But in my opinion is too easy to accidently scratch or chip the paint and touch ups rarely ever go unnoticeable, especially if it was originally painted a long time ago.

I'd personally only recommend doing it to improve a kitchen temporarily until you can save the funds to re tile etc. Or even to test colour schemes before before committing to a certain tile. Never as a permanent home "improvement"

This is my opinion as a tradesman and have heard opinions from others in trades and almost all were against it.
