Hi,

Like so many, since lockdown our house move has been indefinitely delayed. We were at the final stages and the chain were about to agree on exchange and completion dates. Of course, this has all been up in the air for the past 7 or so weeks.

Given BoJos latest announcement of people being encouraged to go back to work if they can't WFH, then does that mean that removals companies will be operating from tomorrow? I know some already were, but most weren't.

Thoughts?...

It’s p2.

3.1 it s a bit wordy!

Tulipvase · 12/05/2020 20:10

Posters on MSE seem to think it means we can move!

Goinglive · 12/05/2020 20:14

I'm a property lawyer and weve just been told people can move. I can only imagine what tomorrow will be like....

ESpressoNotEXpresso · 12/05/2020 20:18

@Tulipvase, thank you. It's still not that clear to me. I guess I'm not that wordy Confused Grin

@Goinglive, this is potentially very good news! You have just found this out today?...

We get the same updates you do. I'm sure we'll get some Law Soc guidance tomorrow. I might moan , but really I'm very relieved.

The housing minister, Robert Jenrick has tweeted that he has important news to update parliament with regarding housing market. I believe this is only relevant to England though.

Really hope it's full green light for surveyors, I know they've been included to work in people's home but I'm sure it will take a while to get going.
Really struggling with communication with conveyancers and estate agents (a national chain running on minimum) to know where everyone is at in a small chain.
Or possibly a break in stamp duty?

Soph88888 · 12/05/2020 21:01

Biggest problem for us has been the council. They had 3 weeks before lockdown to do the local search, really they could have pushed this through but didn’t and they’re still not open so a whole chain is waiting.

ESpressoNotEXpresso · 12/05/2020 21:01

@Tulipvase, 🤞 Can't tell you how much I'm hoping this is true!

I'm due to exchange/complete on 29th May, this was confirmed last week which I was surprised about given the government hadn't changed guidelines at that point. Removals may be an issue but my DP has the option to insure himself on his uncles van so I'm hoping everything goes smoothly, although I won't believe it til I see it!

Vintagevixen · 12/05/2020 22:15

OP don't worry about your moving van being pulled over I really think that won't happen. My moving van was out and about loads during the very beginning of lockdown on 4 seperate occasions (long story involving moving house twice/storage etc) This was when roads were absolutely deserted and involved moving out of London to the south coast. Police didn't bat an eyelid, saw a couple of police cars on the way but nothing.

Plus my sellers had vans and no problems there either.

Geepee71 · 12/05/2020 22:38

Fingers crossed we can all get moving!

Smidge001 · 12/05/2020 23:10

I really don't understand how the government says we can go and do a house viewing, and basically visit a random stranger's house when they say we must not go into any friends or families houses (or even their gardens). It doesn't seem logical to me! Confused

mumsy27 · 13/05/2020 03:01

Smidge001 friend's house, you will be seating and socialising in closer distance, higher risk.
compare to house viewing, the agent can wait outside or leave distance, in and out, lower risk.

romatheroamer · 13/05/2020 06:36

The very point I made on the "when will viewings be allowed" thread. There may be a backlash when people cotton on to this...but the Government you perhaps noticed isn't great at thinking things through.
