For those with a wall mounted TV

Hi All,

As the title suggests, this is one for those who have wall mounted TVs.

I’m due to move soon and was hoping to mount my TV on the wall. I’m just wondering how people hide their wires, and what you do with the sky box, PlayStation etc.

I’m really trying to avoid having one of those cabinet things as the space in the front room isn’t great.

All ideas welcome.

Our plug and arial sockets are directly behind the TV on the wall so you hardly see them, even when the TV is swung out at an angle.

We brought them down from the roof in steel pipe because it's a brick wall but otherwise just cut up from your existing sockets and chase the wires in, then plaster over.

We put ours in the fireplace, altered a pretty white wood radiator cover & stuck it in front like a fire guard. Doesn't project into room at all, remotes work through grille. Appreciate this only works if you have an empty fireplace.

Our sky box sits on our mantlepiece (it's one of the new super slim ones), and the wires from the tv go into the chimney so are completely hidden. Only works if you're not intending to use the fire though!

Our wires are buried in the plaster (we were redecorating anyway). Don't have a sky box etc, just use freeview which is built into the telly we have.

Cut a channel in the wall, patch plaster over.

Thanks All - we were really hoping to avoid going through plaster. We won’t have a fire place so unfortunately that’s not an option for us

The current occupiers of the house have all of their TVs mounted, I didn’t see any wires so assumed they’ve gone through the wall too.

Now I’m thinking about the damage they might do to the walls when removing the TVs?!!

That means there are already sockets and you can just plug in without having to plaster.

Strictly a TV wall bracket is a fixture and should be left, though I would specify that in the contents discussion if you want it.

If they have chased the cable through the wall then one way they can remove it is to cut the plug off and pull the cable through the hole and fill the hole.

If not they may have installed sockets behind the TV itself which would make your life easier.

If you need to hide the cables but don't want to do anything to the wall then you can always go down the route of trunking, doesn't look the best and can give a bit of a hotel kind of vibe but it works to keep cables tidy

Ours is like this

Whoops didn't work

Thanks all. They’ve confirmed that there are sockets behind the TV, so there shouldn’t be any problems

Please don't mount it on the party wall, if you have one. It might be a nightmare for your neighbours, and for you if they complain.
