How much would it cost to rip out this fireplace and fill in the wall?

Just that really. It's ugly and not safe for my young daughter to be messing with. How much should I be expecting to pay? Where do I start? Is it a big job?

It will make a mess to take it out as it is an old (and lovely) fireplace so would need making good and chimney sealing. It looks like there will be a gas supply to cap..

Whilst the gas fire isn't elegant, it's a shame to take it out. Can you just get a guard until kids are older? That's what we did

If it's the little 'coals' she's messing with then maybe just remove them?
If all you want is to have it removed and covered (with a vent for the chimney) then it should be too much at all. Waste removal might be though so ask on facebook if anyone wants it once removed?

You could leave the surround and get a nicer insert. And use a guard until your child is old enough not to touch.

It’s not that big a job but It won’t be cheap. You need a gas safe registered engineer to cal the supply . Then you will have to decorate the room and perhaps replace the flooring , as you will have to remove the hearth.

If it has an external chimney ( not an balanced flue ) then you will need an air vent.

It would be cheaper and much less disruptive to replace with a nicer one.
