What do you think people in general will want from houses once this is over? What will you want from your next house after this is over?

We want to sell in a few years, assuming the market isn’t completely screwed, and are hoping our house will sell as:

it’s in catchment for good schools (will some private schools go bust?)
has an annexe for a relative
is in the countryside in a community minded village
has a garden with space to grow vegetables
Has several bathrooms and good sized bedrooms for everyone
Has space to WFH and fast broadband, off street parking

What do you think people will be looking for once this is over? We are hoping some of the above.

Has this made you rethink your house priorities? And if so, what do you want in your next house?

I live rurally with a sprawl of outbuildings. I have to say lockdown has been easier on me than my friends in cities. Loads of food in freezers, seperate buildings for home offices, a gym for rainy days. No real restrictions on dc as big garden fields etc. Stockpile of loo roll for my 7 toilets :)

Lots of them have made noises about moving to the countryside when lockdown is over. So I suspect there will be a surge in interest in rural/ semi rural properties on the other side of this.

I think more people will work from home and so the way we live will change. I work from home and long term its important to have separate space otherwise its difficult to separate working time from home time. I also agree with the comment about heating costs. Mine rocketed when I was home all day.

I think longer term we will find more extended families living together again, people will want to have better supplies on hand of food in particular and outdoor space will become vital (particularly if the temperatures keep rising).

Electric cars will become the norm eventually so a charging point for these is useful. I also think that with increased home working more people might only have one car in a family rather than the standard 2.

I live in a flat. I dream of a balcony. I really wish I had one. Open plan kitchen/living room in flats should be banned (my kitchen is separate - thank goodness). Flats need outdoor space that is actually private to the residents - ie fenced off and only residents can access it.

Period cottage, 2 bedrooms, semi-rural, small manageable south facing garden, naice area. But then that's what I've always wanted

Lots of well designed built in storage and a basement.

I think large open living spaces might not be quite so popular as perhaps more people looking for a home office as working from home becomes more popular even on part time basis so having somewhere where peace and quiet is possible without going to a bedroom also outdoor space being more important
