Tiny bathroom ceiling paint

Our main bathroom Is 1.4 by 1.4 and that includes a blath shower. And the ceiling is only 30 higher than my head when standing in the bath. There is an extractor but it can only do so much.

We had it Redone ( badly but meh) 4 years ago and now all the paint is peeling off the ceiling... to the plaster / plaster board.

Any tips how to strip back and repaint it so it is durable for basically a wet room?

Look for paint specifically for bathrooms. Our small bathroom has Dulux something or other for bathrooms, painted over some black mould spots in one corner. They're just appearing again after about 4/5 years. Read the preparation guidelines on the paint can and follow those. :)

does it go straight through the wall or is there a duct?

when does it turn on and off?

Stuckinstressville · 05/05/2020 14:19

pic is too small for me to identify Sad

does it have a timed run on?

How is it turned on?

what diameter is the round grille?

100mm? or 150mm?

Stuckinstressville · 05/05/2020 22:02

Ohhhhh 150mm and the longest timer so 5mins? Comes on with light and also window is kept locked open an inch too to vent.

We don't keep towels or anything damp and always open the Curtain to air dry for a few hires then close it up to allow more air to circulate.

I would say before our loft conversion c2 years . The extractor was funny - in the ceiling venting into a sealed loft cavity - we have had to redo the bathroom ceiling and the next rooms then build up.

if it's 150mm diameter you can get quite a powerful fan. The square surround will be bigger. Please post a close up of the fan itself so I can see what sort it is.

If it comes on with the light switch, just remember to turn it on each time you go into the bathroom.

Do you mean the fan has a self-timer and continues to run on after you turn the light out? This is important. Fans usually have an adjustable timer which can be set to a max of 20 minutes (sometimes 30). If your fan is not drying the bathroom enough you can adjust the timer. If it is a modern, good quality fan with a ball-bearing motor, it should be very quiet so it will not make an intrusive noise. It will run for around 100 hours on 15pence worth of electricity.

The fan will work more efficiently if you keep the door and window closed. Otherwise it may be sucking fresh air from the adjacent window and blowing it out through the fan.

Water vapour is lighter than air (hence clouds) so in the absence of air currents disturbing it, will rise towards the ceiling, and the fan will suck it out. The suction will draw fresh air in through the gap under the bathroom door. Being cool and dry, this will stratify at floor level and the warm damp air will lie on top of it and be pushed upwards.

if there loft insulation all ovr the bathroom ceiling, with no gaps? How thick is it?
