Shower bath - best options?

We are planning to redo our family bathroom. At the moment there is just a bath but we want to add a shower to it for the dc to use. There’s not enough space to have them separate. We also have an en suite shower room.

It will need to be pretty indestructible so I don’t know what type of screen / curtain would be best to keep the splashes in. I’ve seen P shaped baths with built in screens but I’m worried that shaped baths are just a gimmick really.

Any thoughts? Hints and tips? Thanks

P shaped baths are good for the shower end, they give you a bit more room. The wraparound screens are excellent so you don't get splashes all over the floor.

A screen will not keep splashes in! I promise. As you know for certain there will be splashage then decorate accordingly - make it plash proof

There are floor coverings you can get that can also act as 'skirting' so no water leakage when the baths get a bit messy :)

Have you considered just getting a wider standard shaped bath.

Usual width of baths are 700mm, but 750mm and 800mm ones are available. Also how about having a steel one? No creaks and movement as you sometimes get with acrylic baths. Bette and Kaldewei are good brands. Kaldewei is cheaper.

We’ve had 2 standard baths with showers and shower curtains for many years. They work absolutely fine, with no splashing - curtains are a lot wider than any screen I’ve ever seen. Also easy to wash and cheap to replace.
Not a popular or fashionable option now, I know, but extremely practical.

Thanks all so far

I do think that a curtain would be much better at keeping the water in. But yes, not very popular any more.

We have a screen and I HATE it (hardwater area do limescale is in abundance). Wish I'd gone for a curtain that I could whip down and bung in the washing machine to clean.

I don't like shower screens either. Much prefer a shower curtain for reasons stated by others. Other advantage is that if you live in a house without a second toilet, you have a bit of modesty if another member of the family needs to use loo urgently when you are in the shower!

Ovbviously shower curtain can't be a clear one Grin
