If you have a wooden floor (not just sanded floorboards) how do you access stuff underneath if you need to?
pipes, electrics and the like?

We've got hatches cut into our floors. Ideally you can choose where to cut the hatches, so they can end up under beds / rugs, etc. I'm not desperately keen on them, but dh insisted, and he's the infrastructure boss in our house.

We had a hatch under our stairs where you could get under the house. The space underneath was not very big, you had to squat, but you could get to everything you needed to.

Our downstairs floors are all concrete sub-floors (with underfloor heating) and so there is no point in cutting a hatch. If something goes wrong as we have to pull it up, then we'd have to pull the concrete sub floor up too.

We have bad condition bare boards at the moment

So I'm weighing up new wood floor, new boards or new carpet

or move!

hmm , wonder if we have access anywhere . We have continuous wooden floor downstairs, over a chipboard base, apart from the lounge and the boards in our utility are suspiciously uneven but it would otherwise mean potentially lifting the whole kitchen floor to access it
