Cast iron bath disposal?

Is there any sort of market for old baths? I have an old claw footed cast iron bath to get rid of and I don’t know how! Do people like these things? The enamel/paint is chipped in the base but I guess it’s sound otherwise! I don’t even want money for it, but it’s too heavy for the 2 of us to get down the stairs.

Should we try and give it away when lockdown lifts or is there a way to break them into manageable pieces?!

Google local scrap merchants, it might have some value to them to make it worth the effort of getting it downstairs.
I believe they are expensive to re enamel professionally but you could list on eBay for 1p with good pictures and detailing that it needs re enamel, so no comeback, along with a warning that they need to be strong to collect and they need to get it downstairs.

We listed a recently fitted corner bath after moving into a property, it would have cost us to hire a skip or a van to take it to recycling. We actually had loads of interest in it and were happy to just get rid of it for free-we got a tenner Grin

There are plenty for sale, doesn’t meant they will get what they are listing them for though

Scrap is 0.06p per kilo according to google

Warning
If you do decide to smash it up, it can shatter into tiny very sharp shards. Make sure you wear gloves, goggles, long sleeved/legged clothes and thickly soled shoes...maybe even a mask if you can.
Don't do it in shorts and a t shirt!

unless it was the plumber that removed my mum and dads bath and he was just incredibly unlucky that it shattered!

I'm pretty certain you'll find there's a market for them, OP. I think they're wonderful and it's a real shame when people just smash them up. And I include the plain ones without feet in that.

An eBay listing is a pretty good idea if you just want rid.

People do love those. Whether someone would think it worth collecting and restoring I don't know.

I'd contact local reclamation yards and household antique dealers.

Thanks everyone. It’s currently full of rubble in the destroyed bathroom awaiting its fate. I also think they’re lovely, just not for me as having tried it boy does it suck the hot out of the water fast!

I smashed mine in half, dragged it outside and called a scrap metal merchant.

Took quite a beating but got there in the end.

There is a market for re purposing them as sofas

Oops, forgot to recommend ear plugs/defenders as it does "ring" somewhat when you attack it with a hammer!
