Has anyone used the service? Would you recommend? Is it overrated? How useful was it? Did you like the schemes suggested?

Farrow and ball paint is crap. Runny and it doesn't cover well. The whole hype about it is emperors new clothes. So no, I haven't used the service Grin

GreyGardens88 · 26/04/2020 10:43

What paint do you use then ooooohbetty

ooooohbetty · 26/04/2020 10:49

I like B&Q's own. They do a colour match thing if you like the f&b colours.

NewScenesOfJoy · 26/04/2020 10:55

We've done it. We were really pleased with the suggested schemes, we spent about 2 hours discussing the whole house with the lovely consultant and narrowing down to the options we liked best. We're still mid-project (had to stop because of the virus) but the rooms that have been completed look gorgeous, and there's no way we would have felt confident to chose those colours by ourselves.

Our contractor also warned us off F&B paint (after we'd bought most of it!) but the actual decorator said he didn't have a problem with it, and seems to have done an excellent job.

Thanks @NewScenesOfJoy, that's really useful to know!

@ooooohbetty I had the same opinion and used to use Valspar but tbh, not impressed with the colour matching service anymore, had loads of hassle with it and as my new house is a period property with lime plaster, it needs a breathable paint, not a plastic based paint.

Sorry, I haven't used the consultation service but I have read their design book which shows a lot of colour combinations I wouldn't have thought of myself.

I haven't had a problem using the paint either, though I've probably achieved better coverage more easily with Little Greene.

areallthenamesusedup · 03/05/2020 09:43

yes.it was useful.

Queenonfleek · 03/05/2020 10:08

I had the service- I think it is worth it as our consultant had different ideas to us and was good to stop us considering same old options..

terrigrey · 03/05/2020 10:10

Out of interest how much does the service cost?

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfThigh · 03/05/2020 10:14

I've painted a room in F&B during lockdown (bought the paint ages ago - needed something to do to stop me hating my own four walls so much) and I've found it excellent - good coverage and a lovely finish. I did use the recommended F&B base coat/primer, though.

AnnaNimmity · 03/05/2020 10:17

Yes I'd really recommend it.

I've used it for my whole house. It cost £195 but they had an offer on where if used it I got 15% off the paint cost, so it has paid for itself. So helpful. My consultant has loads of experience because she's seen lots of houses and colour schemes, and she helped me to be far more adventurous than I would have been.

I have been painting on and off during lockdown, when I can - nearly finished now, although have run out of paint for the last few rooms (and need her back to consult with too).

I love my house now.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 03/05/2020 10:37

I am a fundamentalist when it comes to paint (was an interior designer and I get bored easily, so I keep changing colours around the house). I had to laugh some one favouring B&Q’s own over Farrow&Ball... you really get what you pay.

I would pay for the F&B Service just to avoid spending weeks pondering about so many slightly different colours, they will consider the lighting and orientation of the house and come with a nice solution.

If you would like to make it less expensive, have the consultation, get any any eggshell paint from FB (There’s NOTHING that can compete with that) but for any FB estate/modern emulsion equivalent, Dulux Trade high performance flat matt does pretty much the same and it costs about 25-30% less they also mix FB colours to perfection, (I run out of FB paint for a big project and used Dulux Trade to complete the room, apart of Dulux being a bit chalky to the touch you can’t really see any difference).

Classiccar · 03/05/2020 23:05

We had their colour consult 3 years ago and we’re still pleased with the ones they came up with but to be honest I could have come ip with it myself by putting together a board on Pinterest.

Gunpowder · 03/05/2020 23:13

I’ve done it too. I think where it was most useful for me is that they bring big A4 swatches of all the colours so you can hold those up in the light and see what goes on different walls. It saves you buying hundreds of testers and painting them on different bits of different walls.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 03/05/2020 23:51

We love F&B paints and I am also intrigued by their consultation, as we recently moved into a new house and would like to redecorate a few rooms.
I also follow them on Facebook. At the moment they are posting vlogs by one of their colour creators. She is walking through her own house talking about the colours she chose and why. Really enjoyable to watch if you are a F&B fan.
