Wooden worktop

Hi all

We've got a Devol kitchen with an Iroko wood worktop thats needing some oil. Not surprisingly I can't get hold of anyone at the moment (and trying to use this down time effectively!), does anyone know the oil that they recommend? Or has anyone oiled their own and happy to recommend the choice?

Many thanks!

There are various oils depending on the finish you want. For a very natural but not so resilient use true oil and preapre to oil every 6 months.
A good one is Ronseal work top oil. You can only use oil if there is no other finish been applied. The finish is very natural.
For a tougher resin type water proof finish (which usually leaves a slight sheen) The best I have found is Osmo poly wax solids) This is very tough. It can however be damaged (leaving a wet tin on it, oven cleaner, acidy things) This isnt a disaster but you then have to sand the whole work top down and start again. Actually this is ok and I tend to do it every 3-4 years anyway . Especially as we foolishly have a sink set in to the work top. My work top is 17 years old. The other one (oiled, is 8 years old and has much lighter traffic
You can buy both online

I know of people that just use olive oil!

Osmo oil, use the one for tropical hardwoods. Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin. Normally I would say Wood Finishes Direct but they have limited ordering because of CV19, but you might find some online. You'll only need a small tin.

Osmo oil - i think you can get it from amazon.

Mum2Girls19 · 26/04/2020 21:25

Sorry for thread hoping and how do we use this oil?
I have wooden work tops too but no sander :(

Can I just use the oil on top as it currently is?

NotMeNoNo · 27/04/2020 12:58

For Osmo you will need to strip back the different oil already on the worktop. After that you can top it up.

You'll need to get it sanded ideally, maybe hire a sander after lockdown to do it.

Another vote for Osmo. Their products are excellent generally.

Halsall · 27/04/2020 12:59

I don’t work for them btw! Grin

Osmo, it's brilliant stuff.

for anyone with the same question, i got a response from devol in the end:

We use Osmo Oil to upkeep the Iroko worktops on display at Cotes Mill - I'd recommend using Osmo Top oil, in a satin finish.
