Would you get rid of a (boring) original Victorian door?

We live in a Victorian terrace. We have a wooden door which I believe is original. It's really nothing special, no stained glass windows or other nice features.

After lockdown, we were hoping to replace it with one with better security, and better heat and sound insulation. That would really help keep the house warmer in winter.

But it feels wrong getting rid of an original feature.

Wwyd?

The old door is original to the house. No replacement will be.

A competent joiner can take a panel door apart and reassemble it, repairing or replacing where necessary and patching the redundant holes. You will probably need new hinges, modern weather stripping and a small modern lock, preferably a 5-lever.

Keep whatever old door furniture remains.

Photo is essential.

100% no, I would not replace it.
A composite door would hugely put me off a period property. They look awful after 5-10 years.,
Spend a bit of money on improving it and maybe if you're feeling flush, buy some stained glass or etched glass panels for it.

Of course a lot is going to depend on the type of property - an expensive family house will be a different matter from the small maisonette in my pp.

And it’s not true that composite doors will look awful after 5-10 years. Ours still looks very good many years later, and security (with the shoot-out bolts) was definitely a factor in our decision.
