Online carpets

Has anyone bought their carpet online and found a local fitter? I'm doing this with some wood flooring but had only considered places like CarpetRight until today

I've not done it before, but I am exploring various options for getting flooring done in my new home. Buying your own carpet online and then getting a local fitter is do-able. I'm considering the same, but still undecided on the flooring type

Have you tried to post the job you want doing to MyBuilder.com? That way local builders can get back to your with a quote. You can also see reviews and pictures of their other work to get an idea about how good they are with installations. The website came recommended to me, but I am yet to find out what it's actually like personally.

Just noticed you specified wood flooring. There should be quite a few local fitters for that as it's a desirable flooring to install.

Can I ask what type of wood it is? Is it engineered? solid? etc.

With the wood flooring it was an obvious thing for me, buy online and have the builder or someone local fit it but the carpet choice completely passed me by! I h ad never thought of doing exactly the same thing.
I'm now looking into types of carpets and why a twist is desirable lol
Have posted on fb to see if there's a local fitter that want to do both types of flooring, what they cost and if they have a preferred supplier etc. No feedback as yet...
For the wood flooring solid wood was out straight away on cost. It's for two hallways and the dining area that runs into the kitchen and family room which has underfloor heating so engineered was the only choice. Then I came across bamboo and I have to say it has blown me away. Similar price to engineered wood, completely sustainable, tough as nails and really solid. It is gorgeous!

That is interesting, especially regarding the bamboo! There is so much variety and choice for the various types of flooring. It also seems like the technology has really changed because laminate flooring is a lot better than it used to be a few years ago; it is noticeably higher quality now.

Have you considered karndean or LVT?

Asking for local fitters on FB is a good idea. Maybe try gumtree as well?

The only thing I would be concerned about is a fitter's skills, experience and installation record to date. So, anyone with an online presence with some reviews would give me some peace of mind. See what guarantees and insurance they offer as well?

I can recommend mybuilder. Com

I used them to get a bathroom renovation fine and it was great.

@ChocoTrio I did look at Karndean / LVT and although they look great from a distance it is horrendously obvious it's just a printed pattern after a mere glance. Not the effect I'm after. Really nice underfoot though :)
If you're thinking about bamboo then get some samples sent over 'the bamboo flooring company' send them free with a small bag of haribo!
