Aaargh, stupid fat fingers pressing post too soon!

To continue, suspended ground floor and neighbour had joists replaced, insulation and wood or laminate floor put down. When I asked builder if party wall notice required he said no. My joists and neighbour's joist share same hole but don't touch. Houses are 1930s mid terrace houses.

I heard a few footsteps before, but with every movement from next door their floor creaks so loudly and their footseps and furniture movements are driving me mad. It's so bad I want to move, but who will buy my house now with that racket going on.

Is there anything I can do on my side and how much could it cost?

What flooring did they have before, do you know?

Do you get on with your neighbour? Could you ask them (obvs social distancing at the moment) how much noise it is making at their side and tell them about the noise at yours? They might not be happy with the work themselves but unable to do anything about it at the present time.

Plus can you check building regs and see if a party wall agreement or building regulations would be required for this type of work.

It doesn't sound right to me.

The reason I've asked what flooring they had before is because I strongly suspect it's changing from carpet to hard flooring which is causing increased noise. They need felt pads on the feet of all their furniture to stop damage to the flooring and dampen the noise. If they used to have curtains and now have shutters or blinds - especially wood, metal or plastic ones - they will be even less sound absorption. It would drive me mad living there, never mind next door.

Not been in current neighbour's house, just seen hallway. Think they had laminate. Previous neighbour had sanded the floors.

All joists on ground floor replaced due to wood worm. I was told that it hadn't affected my joists. Laminate or wood floor put down.

@Rhapsodyinpurple

I've mentioned the noise already. I asked if she could hear me, but she said not much.

She doesn't seem to think it was an issue. It's really getting to me and I'm trying to stop myself from going around and talking to them again. Why can't she change into slippers or similar to to reduce the noise transfer. That would be a start. But of course I can't tell her what to do in her own house. But on the other hand I don't want to be able to track her movements all around the room!

I have a laminate floor myself. Even though I don't want to, would putting a carpet down help at all, or do I need to go heavy duty and get professionals in to rip up my floor and soundproof the communal joist area in the party wall and other things?
