What is it like in your conservatory summer and winter?

We need some extra room and we could stretch to a conservatory but I'm wondering whether we should wait until we can afford an extension.
Will it be too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter to use and is there anything that can be done about these problems. It would be west facing or we could have a north facing one but I don't think that's such a good idea.

I am with LTH
ours is huge and faces north
in summer it's a waste of garden (which was small to start with and is now teeny)
in winter it's a handy extra fridge
in between it is a mildly useful workshop / utility room (tumble dryer, recycling boxes etc)
it blocks a lot of light to the dining room window which looks into it
I hate the damn thing but it's going to cost a fortune to have it taken down

It was obviously never envisaged as a living space though - unheated, quarrytiled floor and you can only get at it through the back door in the kitchen.
Had we the cash I'd replace it with a kitchen/utility extension about half the size, reclaim all that garden, and put French windows into the dining room embrasure for non-kitchen access to the garden.

We've been our house a year and our conservatory has been a bit too cold in winter. We are having a load of work done at the mo and I happened to mention it to them and they have just cleared the radiators out and its lovely in there now in the evenings.... really cosy and its warm.
