Hello, i would like amtico or some kind of LVT installed in my hallway, kitchen and living area. I am about to have my house extendended and have a complete refurb of existing house. Would i need to have concrete on the floor or can the amtico or other LVT be installed over existing floorboards. TIA

Haven't got it myself (yet) but thinking about getting it done on our next house. I'm pretty sure the flooring has to be near perfectly level and smooth so they screed it first before laying the lvt.
We've been told that even in an new build they will probably have to have it done.
Maybe someone else will pop in who has already got it in their house.

Interested if people have any recommendations for best brand of lvt though.

Ply wood is fitted over floorboards then feather screeded to provide a flat surface for LVT.

The thing to look for with LVT is the depth of the wear layer - this protects the pattern layer under it. Amtico is just the best known brand. It doesn't mean it is the best. There are lots of others.

Thanks wowfudge, any other LVT reccomendations?

We have Polyflor which was half the price of Amtico or Karndean. They screed the floor first. LVT is very unforgiving and needs to be laid on a completely level surface.

I had an extension a couple of years ago and wanted an LVT. I did extensive trawling of all the past mn threads and I chose Amtico Spacia honey oak. I’m delighted with it, we’ve had many dancing type parties on it, still looks as good as new. I originally wanted wood, that would have been wrecked!
I had a local shop quote and John Lewis. Preferred John Lewis’s fitting (it was over existing wood block floor. JL screeded over the top. Local shop said I had to dig it all up!) so went with JL.

We have Karndean parquet style in our kitchen. It cost about £1700 and I would not recommend it to anyone. It scratches very easily. The table and chairs have felt on the bottoms but it has still scratched. There are scratches in numerous places after 20 months. Not hardwearing at all.

We have polyflor in our kitchen. Buy what you like that has sufficient wear layer for the traffic/use. LVT can be sealed and polished with different degrees of shine to fill and conceal scratches.

We had Amtico fitted in our kitchen five years ago. Then last year we knocked through to the garden and had a dining extension built. Used the same firm to lay the flooring both times and really can't see the join between the two. Older flooring looks just as good and 'new' as the newly laid area so it's worn well - as others say it's a skilled job to get the levels right.
