Improving brickwork after removal of cladding

Hi all,

Hope someone here can help. We previously had cladding on our house which we have gotten rid off. However, even though we used muriatic acid there are still mortar stains in the texture. We used Liquidweather today and that only slightly turned the brick grey where it was used. Can anyone advise what we can do?

As we are mid terrace we want to avoid getting a render (also the cost!).

I attach a picture

Thanks

The bricks look in amazing condition considering cladding would usually take most of the face of the brick off with it. Great job! Do you have a closer up picture as you’d can’t really see the texture in the brick from that far back. They look fine to me though and they will weather over time which will help. Is it an old house?

Don’t want to distract from the main topic, but the first thing I noticed about the pic was that the lower window has no lintel, is that a new window?

Look up a company called Dyebrick. If council will allow colour change

Looks fine to me.

@Wavey123 thanks. Here are some more pictures. In the close up picture the neighbours wall is also shown for comparison

Do you have a before picture? (just being nosey!)

We have white cladding on the upper part of our house and I hate it. Hoping to replace it with weatherboards which won't then be toooo dissimilar to the neighbours. One of our neighbours told me ours just have breeze blocks underneath 🙈

You might need a brick specialist, but they aren't cheap. I was wondering if some sand blasting would remove the last of the bond.

ifowaa · 09/04/2020 22:22

I can't see the problem (from your picture of the whole of the front of the house)?

If you used a builder to take the cladding off it might be worth getting back in touch to see what they advise doing. Would be great to see a before if you have a pic, looking at getting some pebbledash removed and think we will have a similar issue, though the bricks underneath are flat faced rather than textured which hopefully makes it easier

Here's a before picture. We took the cladding off ourselves.

How long has it been off?

Wavey123 · 10/04/2020 12:31

That looks so much better without the cladding! You could try something like Liquid Weather which gives a more aged look to bricks so will darken them up a bit

Wavey123 · 10/04/2020 12:32

Edit, I see you’ve already tried that sorry

Radders23 · 10/04/2020 19:34

It's been off since August. Do you think more time will help?

God... you’ve improved the look of your house so much. To think someone would pay for that cladding is beyond....

The bricks looks fine to me other than the few missing bits of pointing above the window lintel area. But that’s only me picking out as you’ve mentioned the brickwork.

The grey looks like efflorescence coming through from the cladding used? Maybe just a few cleans and time would do the trick. Or possibly sand blasting but would be expensive.
