What colour to paint these window frames and door?

Have a new house but with everything in lockdown I thought I would just ask for some future advice. I hate the windows but they are in good condition so I will just be spray painting the frames with specialist paint - what colour do you think?

Renovationpainter · 29/03/2020 22:34

I think they would look fab in a heritage green / sage.

Renovationpainter · 29/03/2020 22:35

How dark a grey would you go?

Ha, you've both mentioned the 2 colours I had considered!

I think sage would be good, or maybe a taupe colour?

ClementineWardobe · 30/03/2020 05:14

I'd go very deep navy blue, and grow a yellow climbing flower around the doors, and paint the front door white. Just my immediate thoughts on seeing the house. And a big red photinia in the garden...

Joans3rddaughter · 30/03/2020 05:16

I think grey has had its day. Id be looking at a pale green. Maybe paint the render to a softer shade of off white.

ArriveBy9 · 30/03/2020 09:50

I didn't realise you could paint uPVC. Does it work OK? When would you need to repaint again?

bilbodog · 30/03/2020 10:11

Green, definately not grey. FB churlish green is lovely and looks good with DH white - you could paint The window cils and doors green but the rest of the window frames white. We did this on our previous house - not sure how well it shows up on the photo.

I would go sage green too. Lovely house OP.

Wrinklesareenhancing · 30/03/2020 11:16

Definitely sage green. Grey is not right for a period property.

Renovationpainter · 30/03/2020 13:32

Oh, interesting point about the render being painted a softer white. It is in need of a paint, I will look at different options for the render too.
Re painting upvc, yes, you can paint with special spray paint, they say it should last 10 years when done but I am not sure how accurate that would be. I think it requires about 3 coats though so not a quick job! I hate the windows enough to do it though Grin
Loving the garden tips with the paint colour suggestions! Can't wait to get stuck in, there is a lot of work to do!

I think this combination looks nice - Farrow and Ball French Gray
but looks more green than grey

Check out linseed oil paint - ive just been reading about it - can be used on Upvc and sounds like it lasts a lot longer than ordinary paint.

Renovationpainter · 30/03/2020 14:31

Oh that is lovely crazydiamond
bilbodog Will look into linseed paint, didn't realise it could be used on upvc!

We used Zinsser Alclad to paint a UPVC conservatory it is brilliant and the same paint can also do wood and metal so garage doors an downpipes etc.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 30/03/2020 17:17

I think a sage colour would be lovely.

Renovationpainter · 30/03/2020 22:17

fairislecable - did you spray, roller or brush it on? Pondering over application method too at the moment!

These ideas might help. Grey looks great to me.

Sorry just looked at the paint tin it’s Zinsser Allcoat. Primer and paint in one.

fairislecable · 01/04/2020 12:32

We brush painted it and as long as the surface is cleaned no sanding is required!!

Have used it on UPVC window frames, metal garage doors, wooden soffit boards and plastic (?) gutters and downpipes.

Now moving onto varnished doors inside and it is good BUT needed 4 coats.

thequeenbeyondthewall · 02/04/2020 19:15

That french grey is gorgeous.

Op - If you paint them that colour you have to post an after photo.

Renovationpainter · 02/04/2020 20:46

Definitely will post a photo! Does anyone know roughly what shade of white the render is in that photo with the French grey? Love the combination!

This was the link where the photo came from
timberwindowsnorth.com/how-to-choose-a-window-colour-to-match-your-render/
It just says pale cream/ warm white. If you contact farrow and ball they will be able to recommend which warm white would best suit the french grey.
