Is anyone buying/selling now?

OP posts:

No. Government has told us not to.

Tulipvase · 29/03/2020 17:41

I was trying to!

Heaven knows what will happen if those goes on for 6 months or so as they are suggesting.

imausernamenotanumber · 29/03/2020 18:21

I’m surprised to see stuff is still coming on the market. I guess people had already had pics and valuations done before restrictions came in. So I guess it’ll slow down over the next week or so.

We were due to have an agent round last week so on hold for now. Using the time to do whatever we can to make it saleable, but it’s certainly going to be tough now.

teaandajammydodger · 29/03/2020 19:31

We were close to exchange. Frozen for now. Might fall through.

RHTawneyonabus · 29/03/2020 19:39

We were about to put ours on the market and had had a few ‘hot box’ viewings. That’s all on ice for now.

catfeets · 29/03/2020 19:49

We're in the middle of a sale. Don't know what we'll do if they pull out, we've been messed around so much already and can't afford to keep the house much longer.

Coffeeandgin24 · 29/03/2020 19:55

You aren’t even allowed to.

flowerycurtain · 29/03/2020 19:59

I had a property exchange at the end of feb with a completion date last Thursday. The sale went through fine.

I'm also purchasing another property I'd already exchanged on and will hopefully complete next Wednesday.

If I hadn't already exchanged I think I'd be pulling out as I think prices will drop like a stone.

MissLemon18 · 29/03/2020 20:20

@Coffeeandgin24, you are allowed to under certain circumstances - government updated its guidance.

If the property is vacant you are allowed to move.

DesperateElf · 29/03/2020 21:01

Stuck midway as all surveys are on hold.

Misty9 · 29/03/2020 22:00

I was near to exchange but I think I'm going to pull out as it seems crazy to continue in these circumstances. I am chain free so best off waiting to see where the chips fall I think.

Shmithecat2 · 29/03/2020 22:08

We were seriously looking to buy. Nothing to sell. Now nothing is moving or coming onto the market. It's very frustrating. But, for me, if prices to drop, a silver lining.

Callmesausage · 29/03/2020 22:39

We are waiting to exchange on an empty property, fingers crossed it can proceed. It has taken us six months to get this far.

AniAfri · 29/03/2020 23:07

We’re purchasing a property and are nearing exchange. If the sellers don’t agree to a reduced price, we are going to pull out. There’s to much uncertainty right now, and as first time buyers, don’t feel the risk is worthwhile.

teaandajammydodger · 30/03/2020 01:17

I hope you are not my buyer! I won’t be agreeing to any reduction. We will just stay put.

lovelyupnorth · 30/03/2020 07:49

We completed on the 20th and moved in last Wednesday which was a challenge. Have loads to do but all on hold now.

littlecontis · 30/03/2020 08:55

FTBs here - survey done but we've put everything on hold. We will have to ask for a price reduction as we would only have my income soon, DH is on a fixed term contract and unlikely to get extended.

LightACandleHoney · 30/03/2020 09:01

We had an offer accepted on a house 3 weeks ago after a year of looking. Very, very little in the area we are looking which is suitable (large family) and this house is perfect. Nothing to sell and currently in a (tiny) rental that was only ever meant to be very short term.

No idea what will happen now. We are keen to proceed as soon as we are able (all surveys on hold etc for now), but don’t know if the vendors will pull out as they were moving by choice rather than necessity.

We had hoped to be in by the start of the summer, but now, if it goes ahead at all, I think we’ll be lucky to get in by Halloween, if not Christmas.

Absolutely gutted.

maneandfeathers · 30/03/2020 09:25

We are also mid sale. Surveys etc on hold. Credit checks etc done but not sure if they will want more due to job losses etc.

drowninginstuff09 · 30/03/2020 11:49

We were about to exchange and complete, but my seller wants to delay until all of this is over (whenever that may be!). Chain of three, with top of chain buying the bottom of the chain. Feel really nervous as I'm about to go on maternity and my husband will likely be furloughed, so I'm guessing my mortgage offer has high chance of being retracted. Petty gutted

snowspider · 30/03/2020 12:02

I was mid sale to first time buyer, survey and searches done mortgage approved. He withdrew last Thursday. House is empty. I had hoped to use the money to make our house liveable as gutting the old cottage we live in. We have had two winters with no heating and have removed interior concrete render and exterior and generally is a building site. Dp is lime plastering himself, but we need the equity to proceed. Actually our buyer didn't pull out exactly he gazundered reducing his offer from £275k to 195k. At least it wasn't a quandary rejecting that. I did a full decorating job on the house before putting on the market and had three offers over asking price out of three viewings as soon as it went on the market so gutted. But perspective is everything, if we get through this terrible time that will be a result....we equals wider society not just our family. I am worried now that I am paying out on a fully furnished house 200 miles away that I can't go to, so security wise not good.

MsWoolf · 30/03/2020 12:07

We had an offer accepted a couple of weeks ago. No idea where we go from here. Really worried about losing the house but equally don’t want to buy it and then end up with negative equity... total nightmare.

littlecontis · 30/03/2020 15:39

oh wow that's almost a 30% reduction...would you have considered accepting if it was a 10% reduction? We are considering asking our vendor and not sure what is "acceptable" at this time...Thanks!

littlecontis · 30/03/2020 15:40

@snowspider!

snowspider · 30/03/2020 15:46

littlecontis I actually think it was Wednesday, not Thursday, before the banks pulled their mortgages. Apparently at that point my agent had had no other withdrawals and only one gazunder, which the seller refused and their buyer carried on regardless. I would have seriously considered going down to £255k and maybe even £250k but not below, I would rather wait twelve months or even two years.
