Move thwarted by coronavirus

We were so close to exchange. Within days of exchange but it is now frozen due to the lockdown. It’s a sale and purchase and a move we really want to do! I’m worried the buyer will pull out completely. All we got was contact through lawyers to say the transaction is paused while there are restrictions. Anyone else?

Mine fell through. Our FTB pulled out and the chain of 3/4 properties collapsed.

Clarabellawilliamson · 28/03/2020 09:00

Yup, ours is all on hold. We were relying on getting in and proof of address for our primary school application too- so there are knock on effects there too! Hope to be in before our mortgage offer expires in June but who knows! Trying to look for positives but just wish we had been in our new place before lock down. It would have been so nice to have a proper garden for the kids!

We were supposed to be in by now but delayed as someone in the chain was worried they wouldn't be able to get decorators in if we went into lockdown so it's been delayed until the 'virus is over'
apparently. In the meantime I'm heavily pregnant and can't decorate the babies room, and still have half my things packed away. Haven't a clue what I'm doing now and feel so down with it all

Whathewhatnow · 28/03/2020 09:35

Yep me.

Really worried chain will collapse owing to mortgage offers expiring/mortgage companies withdrawing offers/ people's income.being hit. Have already spent £££ and the sale is a result.of separation so.... in the meantime.we are still living together. Limbo for my kids too.

.not helped by fact that deluded estate agent thinks everything can proceed as normal.and is pushing us to exchange and move into rented to at least complete the sale of this house... gahhhhhhh

drowninginstuff09 · 28/03/2020 10:05

So frightened about mortgage offer as well...this was base on me being a band higher at work, and not on maternity, and there's no saying how safe my husband's job is currently. The actual mortgage is only £100 more a month in the new house, and we can luckily afford it even with me on maternity and him not working, but the banks won't see it like that Sad mortgage offer runs out early August but I'm unsure if they'll do more checks prior, and there's no saying the sale will know go through

EL8888 · 28/03/2020 10:07

@Whathewhatnow our estate agents been getting on our nerves as well. An irritable woman rang me yesterday to demand an answer to why things are proceeding so slowly Hmm. I think it’s kind of obvious?!

teaandajammydodger · 28/03/2020 12:19

Lawyers and agents have been fine but our buyer tried for a last minute reduction two weeks ago and then was the one to push the pause button. I figure they might pull out. Angry

Us too!! We are nearly in a position to exchange in the next week or two. Our solicitor has said they will carry on up to when we are ready to exchange and see what the score is. We are moving to an empty property but we have first time buyers buying ours and he is self employed. At the moment they are still onboard but who knows how long for.

Our removal company have closed shop at the moment. Both DH and I have bad backs and there is no way we could load a van ourselves especially with two under 5's and a neurotic dog in the mix! They say moving house is the most stressful things you will ever do. I think trying to move house during a global pandemic trumps that!

NewBrideToBe · 28/03/2020 12:53

Sounds really stressful OP.

How did you respond when your buyers tried to get a reduction?

I loathe people who try to take advantage of a difficult situation.

teaandajammydodger · 28/03/2020 14:48

We told them no! We couldn’t do much else. We could afford our onward purchase if we refused the price.

teaandajammydodger · 28/03/2020 14:48

_reduced not refused!

I’m in the same boat op Sad

I need to get the new property valued but the chances of getting a survey done are 0. Not sure what I’m meant to do from here!
