How important is it to get a boiler serviced?

My boiler is scheduled for service this Friday. Obviously I don’t want to end up with no heat or hot water if I can’t leave the house but is this an essential contact?

If it makes any difference, it is a 3 year old combi and I’m not having any difficulties with it.

I’m not vulnerable or self isolating, just social distancing.

I didn't bother getting the gas boiler serviced during the summer as I usually do. Sod's law - it broke down just before we went on a long trip to Australia - came home in November to a freezing house and I found it impossible to get a gas engineer quickly - I' m not living in the UK.
I've learned my lesson.
