Electrical Installation Condition Report - worth it when house buying?

Hi, I'm asking on my daughter's behalf. They are about to buy their first house and are wondering if this is a wise move/necessary or a waste of money after checking feedback on MSE etc. I've lived in the same house for many years so no idea. For information, the house is Edwardian, nicely modernised and current owners have been there 8/9 years and don't know when a report was last done.

Thanks.

Needs to be done when renting, not necessary when buying unless wiring evidently dodgy; old light switches, light bulbs hanging from the twisted stuff that looks like old telephone cord for instance.

Bear in mind that unless a house is rewired each time the regs change, no house will be be in line with the current regulations unless it's brand new.

Thanks, that was in line with my thinking. If in doubt, head to Mumsnet!

EICR most often done on change of ownership - often a requested condition of purchase. If they are planning on spending a lot of money on decor etc then it is worth knowing of any underlying issues before spending money that could be wasted.
Domestic properties should be tested every 10 years anyway.
On a property of that age, I would definitely have it done - costs around £250 where I live.
